Porting games and resources to Torque 3D

by Konrad Kiss · in Torque 3D Professional · 08/18/2009 (7:51 am) · 16 replies

I'm starting this thread hoping that it will help the many new Torque 3D users who are joining the ride now, or who have been unsuccessful at porting pieces of older TGEA or TGE code.

If you are stuck with porting a piece of code, post your problem in this thread, and we'll try to find out what works in Torque 3D.

Please, post compact questions and not entire files, so others don't have to fight through long posts.

Would be a good thread to sticky if people start posting. Would be a useful resource once T3D is released.

Can we post solutions too?

@Kevin: of course!

I'm going to port the Yack pack tomorrow, and mention the details of the port here.

I have been trying to port server side melee, and 3d-diggers horse pack...been having a lot of compile errors with the source on the horse pack, and am having a crash with the server side melee at this point, something wrong with setarmthread.... though i feel i am getting real close with the melee....

How about we ask GG for a "porting-resource/porting-package" sub-forum section for the T3D-private forum ? Then we can keep the threads clean and on topic....and all of the port-solving-goodness will be archived!!

...that would be good, right ?

Agreed - a "Porting Problems/Ported Success" section inside T3D(Private) would be good. In other words - a Porting section. *hint hint*

I noticed that between the guys there's been a couple of successful ports. like my personal fave

Oh, definitely, I agree, a new section for discussing porting problems would be awesome. I'll get in touch with Ken Holst, and see if they could give us such a forum section.

@Konrad How did porting the Yack Pack go? is it worth my buying for T3D? or should I start working on a new solution?

@David: I'm not done yet, but I'll start another thread in a few hours containing the required changes.

Trying to port the advanced Camera Resource so i can have a separate camera and i can manipulate the player separately, but nothing reacts to the commands. So I guess I got more to do. Looking to update this one completely by this weekend.
