Hey are the lightRays being made in the UnderCity Level

Are these just geometry or something because they do not seem to have anything to do with lighting. I thought that this was a function of the advanced lighting system. This seams not to be the case. What ever it is it seems to be part of the grates themselves.
Can someone shed some light on this?

Aren't those just geometry with additive blended emissive materials?

Yes they are. Just play with the material and you will see.

yeah looks like you right I didn't see anything in wireframe until I pulled it away from the rest of the map then I could see it.

Manoel is correct in that the rays you see cast from up above are just a geometry trick involving some long planar shapes with a really faint gradient bitmap applied to them. I know its not perfect but it added a nice touch to the level and were far enough away from the player that you don't really notice it unless you pay attention.
Also some of you might have missed this, but I created a thread way back before beta about the making of the Undercity level that goes into more detail about whats been done and some of the logic why. I will probably update it in a bit to show the cheat I did for the stairs since polysoup fails on it.

We accidentally left the datablocks in the Undercity level to do the LightRay casting if you turn it on with the PostFX system, so technicly it is there (which isnt a good thing since you only catch it a few times and it eats some framerate... but it looked dammed good as a demo lol).Manoel is correct in that the rays you see cast from up above are just a geometry trick involving some long planar shapes with a really faint gradient bitmap applied to them. Tricks like this work... in fact you can see them in use in Crysis and Killzone2... use them.
