Linux Game Publishing is excited to announce our newest project to increase the appeal of Linux gaming. We are sponsoring the development of a from-scratch Linux title! We are looking for developers to work in a team to produce this game, and we will be publishing the game they make! If you are interested, please follow the link to Our detailed announcement and within there you will find the rules, requirements, and application process. If you have wanted to get into the gaming industry, if you love playing games, and if you are a creative thinker, not afraid of a challenge and a bit of risk, then you need to take a look.

What do you expect? This is a place to come to find a team, an engine, and other resources isn't it? I get sorta upset when people dismiss just any request for a team as "just another desperate and ultimately failing project". I mean, everything's gotta start somewhere, and no one person can make a game ('cept tetris and the like). Help will always be needed. This isn't a hostile tone by the way, I just would like to know what people really look for when someone posts a job? What can set something aside? How can a leader really portray the seriousness of his vision? I feel my requests for help are passed to the wayside for the same reason. If anyone knew me though, they'd know to never question my seriousness, because I don't think I'm going to be a game developer, I don't hope for it, I don't dream about it, I will be one. I don't care if it kills me. There's nothing else on this planet for me. Some level of skepticism IS necessary, but a lot of us have some real vision and may never be given a fair shot because of the hundreds of others that came before us to ruin everyone's tastes. I feel that in my short time as a member of this site, something has been lost, and too many people are losing focus of what is really important. No one became a big developer without taking on some risk. I'm willing to do it. And my almost complete team is willing to do it. And I'm sure Ken is willing to do it too. Maybe there just isn't enough talent to go around...

hehe - that wasn't a request for people for *my* project, it was an announcement I stumbled across that I thought might be of interest to some of the Linux gamers out there. I'm already up to my axles in game dev work :-) -> www.tubettiworld.com

I have this really cool idea for a massivly multiplayer online role playing real time stratigy first person third person shooter with puzzle solving. (MMORPRTSF/TPS Puzzle game) If you want to help let me know, this will be so cool that you may need a sweater just from reading the design doc. Right now the doc is on a piece of notebook paper, but I will soon type it into Word and make it much better. I don't want to give much away, but there will be ninjas in it.

Well I'll be danged. I'd thought - obviously mistakenly - that I might be doing *someone* a favour by posting the information. Apparently not. It won't happen again.

I'm just bitter stuff like that made it on Slashdot whereas the Linux port of MarbleBlast didn't.

Hey Ken...although I saw this elsewhere, I do appreciate you posting it here as well. :)

I've been in touch with the LGP guys. I think they understand the opportunity that the Linux platform represents for independent game developers. I appreciate you mentioning their efforts here.
The scope of the recruitment did seem a little broad and provided very little in terms of project focus, but it didn't propose a virtual commune or any kool aid. It also outlined a clear process about building the team and expectations.
Building teams is in the top 5 concerns at GarageGames - like building any other enterprise how you pitch and how you're received is extremely challenging. Sometimes you have to take posts like Pat's in the context of his standup routine... I think he's working on a piece for IGC.

Torque Owner Ryan Smiderle
"We are looking for eight developers, at least one of them with team
leading experience, to come together and make the killer Linux
game. What that game is, will be up to the group. Creative thinkers
and excellent development skills should be the main traits of each
applicant."
Another plea for developers...
The sounds like a million other threads I've read: "I need developers to help me make a game!!"...
