Mac-moron needs help

Alright. A friend bestowed on me a 9700/200 with 256mb of ram and a 4.1 gig HD. I was elated. Here's the catch. Bascially he said to put OSX on it using XPostFacto, that was all well and good. I got it in this condition:
1gig OS9 partition
2.5gig YellowDog Linux partition
512mb swap partition
I reinstalled YellowDog (he forgot to give me root password) and (after hours of looking around) used pdisk (fdisk w/ Mac FS support) to change the 2.5gig partition into an HFS+ partition. When I booted OS9 back up it recognized this immediatly and initalized it. Cool. I loaded up XPostFacto and told it to install OSX on the new 2.5 gig HFS+. Now here's the problem...when I reboot, I either get a OSX console with root mounted as readonly, or I get "Out of scan range" on my monitor. I don't have an OS9 CD at the moment, only the OS9 and YellowDog 2.3.
Any ideas?

I found out I have a ATI Xsomething VR, anyhow, got the latest 9.1 drivers for it from ATI, still only 640x480. Now I'm thinking it's a Monitor problem, OS9 must not see that the monitor can do anything.
Any ideas?

Yeah, chances of getting a response here are probably pretty low. You're trying to install on a system that could have numerous support (or 'unsupport') issues...d

Actually, I'm no longer trying to get 10 on...I just want resolution higher then 640x480.
