TGE and Vista (currently x64)

When i run stock the supplied stock TGE exe under vista 64 it works pretty well in OpenGL mode, but as soon as i try to use D3D i get buggy artifacts for the few seconds before it blue screens on me.
So my question here is, do i need to compile a different exe on different OSs or is there a way i can make a single compiled exe compatible with all windows OSs (XP, XP64, Vista and Vista64). It is my understanding that vista should run standard non DX10 apps without modification
As of yet ive not recompiled the engine on this system to see if in fact recompiling even fixes this problem, i'm assuming it will... assumption being the mother of all screwups aside..
If anybody has any experience here or knows of any posts that i can actually read on this subject, that would be fantastic.

A curious thing though while stood in a hovel (stronghold mission) testing the frame rates using metrics(fps) i get and average of 250fps using D3D and an average of 285fps using OpenGL i guess that kind of surprised me considering all the hype and doomsaying about vista and opengl

It does work in compatibility mode, and with very little detrimental effect, i guess i just want stuff to work 'out of the box' my newly compiled version works fine on vista64 without compatibility however i have no way of testing how it works on XP right now.A curious thing though while stood in a hovel (stronghold mission) testing the frame rates using metrics(fps) i get and average of 250fps using D3D and an average of 285fps using OpenGL i guess that kind of surprised me considering all the hype and doomsaying about vista and opengl

Have you updated your video card drivers? The ones out of the box are actually the latest XP drivers that were available when Vista was released. Try that out and see if helps any.
