Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question about the game.

What is the good/best video card for Tribes 2? currently my computer is using a card with the vodoo 3 chip and the game doesn't work. Thanks for your comments

J.

Well, I'm running off a AMD T-Bird processor (1.4ghz) and a Verto GeForce 3 ti500 and I can run the game on the highest settings and get a frame rate between 30fps and 60fps. I swear by my GeForce 3, but if you are going to update, I would recommend waiting until spring of 2003 simply because NVidia is due for a new card relese then. If you really want to upgrade now, Get a GeForce 4 ti4600, if you can afford it. If you don't have that much money to burn though, a geforce 3 will definaately fix you up if you have a PIII generation computer, and a Geforce 2 will still work run T2 even down to a PII generation computer. I've seen Tribes 2 played on an AMD K6-2 400mhz computer and a Voodoo four, but it wasn't quite playable by nor mal standadars (FYI).

ATI is running a special on their 9000 card for $149.
The trouble with reviews on graphics cards is that they can change from month to month because of new drivers. I have a 7200 now and love it.

I used to run T2 with a voodoo 3 3000 with no problems and decent framerates, though alot of the preferences were turned way down. Try mesaGL--it's openGL-compatible just for Voodoo cards. Sorry, I dont have the link. Try mesagl.org or sourceforge.net.

Edit: BTW, as far as I know, GG doesn't do any support for Tribes2--they only were contracted to do the new updates. Try Sierra's website or PlanetTribes. :-)

Tribes 1, Unreal and other revolutionary FPS games of the past were essentially coded especially for 3DFX VOODOO cards.

Tribes 2 (and Torque I suppose) and the current slew of games really run best with Nvida chipsets.

The games with *all new* engines that will be releasing in 6 months to a year will be essentially ATI 9700 optimized.

unfortunately, PC gamers have to pay to be on the "bleeding edge", so maybe it's best to start saving for the ATI Radeon 9700 about now ;)
