Just setting this post to provide a forum for people to bring up any points they feel relevant that haven't been dealt with before.

The problem with that is what does the standard bearer do, if he is carrying the banner then he is just a target.

If you were going to do something like that, make spirit lances that you can stick in the ground after charging with magic. The area affected and how long it lasts would depend on how much of a charge you give it, and for how long it's been in use. I wouldn't boost stats, because that would defeat the purpose of it being stationary, or at least independent of your own movement. Rather, it would have to act as a magical shield. But, it wouldn't protect against physical attacks.

How about some kind battlestandard bearers, who would carry your teams banners or something like that. And other players in same team who are close enough the standardbearer woudl get small bonus to some stats. And there could be different kinds of banners to choose from.
