How to get Blender installed and working
by William Shellman · in Artist Corner · 07/18/2007 (6:41 pm) · 7 replies
I have tried following the instructions that came with the package, but "Python" is not registering in Blender.
I re-installed Blender and Python, but it still isn't functioning. I can run Blender, but there is nothing I can create in it. Every acton I take is met with the "error, python not installed" message. I need a walkthrough guide to this program. Is there anyone who can help me out? I'd appreciate all comments.

Thanks, Ed. I tried the instructions found on the website, but Blender still claims that the python install is not present for "lwo" files.

2.5.1, but the Python install fails when it attempts to update the Internet Connection Agent. After I continued past that point by clicking "Ignore", it finishes but my internet then fails claiming "Cannot find server". I just moments ago, spoke to a tech over the phone to re-establish my internet connection and I don't wish to go through that again. I am worried about attempting to re-install Python. If Blender 2.4.4 doesn't need the Python, should I leave it alone? Blender is working, but the Python scripts are not. Can anyone help?

If Python is not needed for Blender 2.4.4, why does it claim that the proper Python install is not present for "LWO" files, and the "3ds" files are blocked by Python as well. I have not tried any other file formats as yet. I have used the samples and default shapes effectively to export to Torque so far, but I cannot create original works or import the aforementioned file formats. I have installed Blender 2.4.4, and it is running but when I try to open a file or import, I get only Python scripts errors. What is the missing "full Python"?

I was puzzled as to why it would need to update the Internet Connection? Nonetheless, when I run the installer for Python 2.5.1, that is the message I receive near the ending of the installation. It will not pass that point unless I select "Ignore" to continue. I do not understand why it needs to update this. Is the Python installer damaged or corrupt perhaps? I have already downloaded the Python you suggested.I have installed Blender 2.4.4, and it is running but when I try to open a file or import, I get only Python scripts errors. They are: Python 2.5.1 and MiniPython Pack 1.5.1
The MiniPython was used to install my QuArk program. QuArk is functioning properly except for the textures. I am trying to resolve that issue. I do not wish to damage QuArk. I had quite a few Python applications installed that I was unaware of, and I have deleted the older versions less the 2 above. Will deleting MiniPython 1.5.1 destroy QuArk? Will Python 2.5.1 take its place and operate both QuArk and Blender? Your help has been appreciated.

Thanks for your help, Joseph. I will try your instructions and report the results. I am still new to all this so excuse my ignorance of modules. I greatly appreciate your support!
