Yeah, that is pretty interesting. I can't help but wonder how long it will take for someone to seriously abuse this. Sounds like Lindon has been preparing for it though and I'm sure they're bracing for impact.

People not having access to the source for other games/apps haven't stopped them from abusing it. This may make it easier for them to do it, but it also give the people who are wanting to make it better improve upon it as well. It could very well be that many new coders who could potentially have some good skill & interest in this might help make a better client. Time will tell.

I think it's a great move on LL's part, and i look forward to improved clients !

relatedly, folks might be interested in libsecondlife, an open-source project to reverse-engineer both client and back-end of SL.
