Project board would be a great addition to this community

What I mean by this is a place to post projects where people can bid on them for doing things like making models, editing code, additions and modifications of GG products.

An example of a working model of this would be something like: http://scriptlance.com or http://getafreelancer.com

We have talked about this b4. A public mantis like operation that had various options.

Like an ebay for indies. Indibay :)

Edit: Also look at the Great games experiment thing. I have been to busy but I think
it has some co-ordination stuff in there... don't really know sorry.

Shawn,

What's wrong with the marketplace/help wanted page that GG has now?

@CJW
I don't think you understand. He means people will do BIDS on models, coders, additions and modifications of GG products(this is almost an exact quote of him), etc... in a auction style thing. Like ebay, or as Randy said "Indibay". The current GG marketplace/help wanted page doesn't have anything like this and has no system for payments or anything that I know of.

I was trying to find the old post where some good ideas for this...

You would need a secure online method to conduct either public or optionally private
transactions. Bids could be public, private invite to a group or private invite to one person

Like pre arranged or other means(for direct person to person or co/co invites). I.E. you meet someone at a conference and agree to work on something and you use this tool to facilitate the transation BUT someone like uh GG has to manage the tool so that people don't get ripped off and bad things don't get done/sold/haxxored etc.

A lot of the pieces are there.. I would start with nuking this old forum format and making something more interactive that could even load up this so called Secure Indy Baaay and all the torque products ... oh heck throw in all the documents and tutorials in there too why not?

I don't want much do I? :)

I could do all of this if GG would go for it. I have the tools available but it wouldn't work unless GG was willing to move forward to offer something like this. I think this would increase production of games with GG software by 20 fold. A better forum solution is needed, this system sends me way to many emails and is very limited in what we can do with it.

note to GG, please don't take offense I'm just trying to ramp up for the project I will be starting next year and this would be a major asset having a more streamlined community to work with where it doesn't hinder project development. Look at CommunityServer software, it's used for many of the community sites my main company hosts.

Feel free to do something like this. GG's approval is not needed.

@Okishira

I do understand. He wants to create something like RentaCoder, or Project247, or even Guru.com.
While it is true the the current help wanted page doesn't have a payment system in place, the concept is similiar. People in need of help post their queries/questions seeing who will respond. People do respond either asking for money or not.

the only difference between GG's help wanted system and the others is that GG doesn't take a commision for people using their site to ask for help, and doesn't act as an 'agency'. Therefore GG is not liable for any misrepresentations, and are not responsible for making sure that either party keep their end of the bargain.
it is up to the bargaining parties to fend for themselves.

The tech has been *here* for years in terms of projects but has not been utilized by the majority.

Find a way to utilize it.

And recognize that "the majority" is a very indefinite marketplace, which is a strange concept in terms of "indie" rhetoric. We toss terms around all the time and there is an amazing amount of slippery context between what we say and what we mean by those who read/listen/etc and interpret it.

Is it ok to link to this after I have created it even if it supports other game engines as well?
