Vote for your 3d package

Does anyone know the percentage of Max, Lightwave, Blender, C4D, Maya, Milkshape etc users out there who also own / use Torque? It would be usefully to know when making content packs in the future.

Milkfarmer Rex here, and gameSpace, UltimateUnwrap3d.

@Bryce: ...I should weight up Kork and send a Ms3d copy out to the world and see how 'bad' quality can actually be 'okay'. I think you'd be surprised, now that weighting data can be exported. Milkshape exporting has come a long, long way!

Lightwave, Modo, Carrara for certain low-cost rendering plug-ins in video, Poser for rendered figures with a lot of content through Daz3D/Content Paradise/Renderosity/etc, Vue for rendered landscapes and atmospheres. I also have Silo Hexagon and Bryce installed but do not use them that much since I use Modo and Vue for the same things they do well.

But my suite of choice is LW.

Maybe someone could post a predicted % of packages used. I don't see any max users here but there must be some.

Something like
Max : 60%
Blender :10 %
Milkshape : 10%
Lightwave 20%

that sort of thing - maybe GG staff know the breakdown?

Hexagon 2/Carrara 5 pro

These programs are amazing. Especially hexagon 2. For my new content pack that is coming out shortly, i modelled all the chararcters in hexagon 2. I also do all my uving and texturing in this program. Once the model is uv'd. you can paint directly onto the 3d surface of the model, to fine tune textures, or even paint a whole texture.

Amazing programs

I then export out, rig the characters with fragmotion, and then into milkshake. i just wished milkshake would allow vertice weigting for characters

Lightwave
Anim8tor is nice too but no .dts exporter
I use Milkshape usually for something quick and dirty or for it's import/export qualities.

Read all about it here! Chris did some excellent voodoo to the exporter to pickup the data the SIMS2 UniMesh Plugin, etal generate....;). Delicious. Just remember to use a .cfg and change vertex weighting from 1 to 3, exporter takes over from there. I've also had to fizzle with the animation Delta setting to get some nodes I definitely had animating exporting data, sometimes. That was a non weighted shape that did that, I think, anyways...use a .cfg file to help out.

...Low?? polys the upper limit on the 'Milkfarm' is 60,000 that's right SIXTY-THOUSAND...low poly not anymore...lol. I have jammed the limit a few times...I have some cad generated type shapes that contain on average around 20-30,000. Smoothe they is, in the low poly modeller.

OH, add fragMOTION to my list of tools, just great it is....license holder on that too.

Might be really interesting to have only registered, licensed users voting in the poll...;). Heck, I can use Max, I understand Max, I like Max, awesome program; however, I ain't licensed to drive it legally, though....won't catch me using a student copy or demo version to work with....ahem. I wonder the ratio of 'pirate' users who eventually purchase a copy once they generate enough paid work, to those who flat out purchase.

Like a lot of people around here, I use a variety of tools for my 3D work. However, if I can ever figure out XSI, then I may be able get rid of some apps. Ditto for Hexagon -- very cool program. We just need some DTS exporters. :)

Anyway, taking Rex's suggestion . . .

Licensed - in order by frequency of use
----------
gameSpace
trueSpace (multiple versions up to 5.1)
Milkshape
Bryce 2
Daz Studio
XSI Foundations 5
Hexagon 2.0

Evaluating - in no particular order
-----------
Shaper
Anim8tor
Fragmotion
Blender
Terragen
Makehuman
Pacemaker
MeLODy

@Rex
I own all of my software, and I own a lot of software. But I usually stick to a single high-priced package (currently Lightwave). I have used Maya and Max on projects, but it has been a long time and a couple versions back with Max. Seeing as how I use LW more, I prefer it since I have modified my workflow accordingly.

David, not casting any stones in your direction....just a thought I have when I see a lot of Max type questions and such floating about on forums...that's expensive software, and I wonder how many actual registered holders there are, as to the polling....I'm thinking there is a handful of Maxers/Mayans/LWers and a ton more of Milkfarmers/Blenderizers and such.
