Donations?

One of my biggest concerns right now is purchasing other software, like Paint Programs, video editing software, etc.
I'm thinking of opening a small donations area on my website, and whoever donates will be given little awards, like a special spot on the website and their names listed in the credits of all games created.
My question is, do donations work well? I'd imagine there are plenty of people out there who have plenty of money it would like to donate, but I'm not sure if it would be worth going through all the trouble.

I think I recall a thread about this before, where Jeff T. actually suggested not to use donations. I can't remember why, though.

From Microsoft.com FAQ on Windows Movie MakerQuote:Be sure to read the EULA and feature list for your particular needs.
Q. How do I get Windows Movie Maker 2.1?
A. Windows Movie Maker 2.1 is included in Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). To download Windows XP SP2, go to the Microsoft Update.

This is not a permitted use. You may release your free demo on your own site, but you cannot charge money for it, even in the form of donations. I really doubt you will make any money this way anyway.

No that's not the one. I'll try and find it.
Edit: Didn't find it, sorry. Maybe someone else spotted it.

Windows XP is not a free product by any means, and the OP didn't specify his O/S.Quote:

Point - There are free/lowcost options out there if you want to hunt for them and depending on your need.

Removed because this thread was starting to miss the point.Point - There are free/lowcost options out there if you want to hunt for them and depending on your need.
Torque Owner Dan -
Personally I would right size my life such that you can pay for the things you mention without performing internet panhandling. If you can't do that use many of the free versions such as GIMP for a paint Program. Windows Movie Maker for Video Editing Software, etc.
