The question came to my attention recently.
What types of royalty free content packs do you need most?
Music packs?
More Enviorment packs?
More objects?
More Characters?

More characters, there are only a few out there. Almost every game needs characters. I really think WWII characters would sell, you could even have different skins to make them more modern as well.

I can always always use more environment packs, and they are good in almost every type of game even the weird ones I tend to think up.

explosions, firearms, weather FX, ambient indoor / outdoor noises (ocean crashing, crickets at night, office fan... ), footsteps on different materials, sounds of objects falling, or doors opening/closing, misc machine noises, etc. etc. etc.

CODE
Why not have more code content packs?
More work and maintenance would be involved esp where upgrades are concerned, however you only have to read through these forums to notice the amount of coding questions and requests.
Some cursory ideas:
- Complete weapon management system
- Player extensions such as more animations / positions etc
- Advanced fps kits which include solutions for teams, scoreboards, power-ups, gui's etc
- Network additions and improvements
Just an idea...

I don't need this but feel it's a neglected content pack area. CODE

Code content packs should be for free anyway. I'd hate to see this change.

Eh, I dont know. Im actually surprised more coders dont do code packs. There are updates out there that would go way beyond the extent of a resource, and I imagine could make someone a nice little bit of spending money.

I can't see who wouldn't pay for well structured optimized code. Naturally there will always be free code in the form of resources, but usually this code is flawed in some way and not very optimized.
Sure, I can implement drl or some great water shaders for TGE, normal mapping etc all for free but at a big hit to performance and frame rate as well as having annoying bugs present.
I'll be releasing a content pack soon, more details will come shortly. My content pack will not only contain models but the code to get them working at their best. I'm hoping that this will help my content pack stand out from the crowd.

As for "what art content packs do we need?" - It's a hard question, Wild West, World War Two, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Iso, Top Down, Side Scroller style, 3D models, textures... So many styles, so many genres. I'm not sure there can ever be a consensis as to what "we" need the most, it's very dependent on the style of the game
Fantasy style graphics seems to be a huge market. Swords, Shields, armour, farm animals, houses, temples - if modelled in 3D (and rendered out in ISO or Side Views) could cover several bases
Something like terrain textures (tiling) in square/ISO formats could also be a way to go. Lots of people want to render tileable terrain in one way or another, and GOOD tileable textures with no obvious repeat patters can be hard to get hold of

There's a lot of Art Content packs that are free too. I think there is a fine line between free/pay content packs, and it's really up to the developer to decide if it's worth their while to sell, and buyer to decide if it's worth their while to buyAs for "what art content packs do we need?" - It's a hard question, Wild West, World War Two, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Iso, Top Down, Side Scroller style, 3D models, textures...
