Search Engine Issues

by Brandon Maness · in Site Feedback · 04/07/2006 (10:38 am) · 33 replies

I just noticed today that doing a search for something as simple as 'advanced camera' did not return any pages about the advanced camera resource. I had to go to the authors info page and look at his posted resources to find the page.

I tried some other searches for specific information that I knew was there, and had found in a search result before, and now it's not in the search results.. Just a bunch of DevMaster links?

Might want to check on the search engine.

I noticed this too on Pat's Asset Encryption, which I usually got by searching for "Protect Asset".

A little update:

When searching, if you select a keyword like 'water' and choose the 'forums' then you get no results. I'm pretty sure there is a thread somewhere with the word 'water' in it ;)

The GG google search server updates/rescans each night...

I guess, because the site was offline last night... it wasen't able to update/rescan the GG site. (which means no GG site search results)

Actually my guess is that Rick is messing with the server again. I'm sure he'll chime in here soon enough, but i am sort of lost without GG search.

I was thinking the same thing.. Amazing how fast the google search became a necessity; whatever they paid was well worth it!

I agree, I miss my google!

Google is google ;) it's fast and proved itself as best search engine. I'm sure after next re-scan everything will be fine.

I wanted to bump this one up again. I had a search issue as well today. I was looking for the following resource:

Countdown Clock

I would think searching for 'Countdown clock' would find it, but that comes up with no results...

Good bump, I was doing a search and all of the responses I got that should've been coming from docs were pointing to indiegamescon.com instead of garagegames.com. If I replaced indiegamescon.com with garagegames.com in the URL, then it would go to the correct location.

Generally in the past, I've been pretty dependent on the search engine, but right at the moment it appears to be pretty severely broken.

I've forwarded this on to Rick for further research.

There is an unforseen interaction between the Google mini and the new Akamai deployment. I am working on a solution now.

Awesome, thanks Rick!

It will take 24 hours to rebuild the complete index and see if the changes work.

Hrm, I'm still not finding that resource when I do a search. Or, for that matter, this post, which should also come up when I search for 'countdown clock'

Obviously, I know where that particular resource is, but it makes me wonder what else is not coming up when I do other searches...

Me neither. I know a few resources I used to search for with a specific search, but can not find them anymore.

I have been very unhappy with the way 'search' have been treating me. Up untill a few days ago, it was fast and easy to search down a topic with only a few key words. Just today I am searching for 'muzzle node' information, no matter what wording i use 'search' returns the same results. And what is with the indiegamescon links to Error 404 - Not Found? I know there is information that i have at one time read, but am now not able to re-find under the 'search'.

Can we get an update from GG staff on this issue? My team uses the forums very heavily to educate ourselves, so not having search functionality is being felt very acutely.

Yeah wow, it's really annoying. I might also add that the TDN search doesn't work well AT ALL. Perhaps google search in TDN would be best too.

Hmm...Aynbody at GG fixed this yet? I even tried to do a search on my name, There is a link to my profile but it is showing www.indiegamescon.com/my/home/view.profile.php?qid=. That links to the 404 file not found like Caylo indicated. I hope this gets fixed because I use search alot also!
