Tribes 2, day one

Just picked it up and started playing. I love it so far, the sounds don't have the same "bite" that the original sounds had, I may replace them ;-)
I'm very happy with the new messaging, beats the hell out of parsing everyting in onClientMessage...I'm happily adding callbacks for 'MsgCTFFlagTaken'. Haven't looked much at what I need to do to waypoint someone yet...but so far moving my stuff over to T2 is going well.
Having some video lag issues, not sure how to resolve them as of yet. Getting some game freezes during the pre-mission countdown, I think that's due to it loading and caching all the stuff.
Over all...great work.

Speaking of V12. What are the current number of interested parties in licensing V12? Does it look like
there will be enough to recoup some cost?

Looks like we will be in great shape. It's not a living, but we will definitely be able to keep the site going.Jeff Tunnell GG

It's tough, to say the least, to know when your flag is taken, and on the maps I've played, almost impossible to see enemies before they are on top of you...though this may be due to the sensor coverage of said maps.
On the client side...I've been unable to find the corosponding function to the Tribes 1 'getManagerId()' which gave you your own ClientID and is used in scripting.

After playing a bit I came up with some comments...first off, the bind method was a bit more confusing then the 'make' 'break' of Tribes 1, but it works. I was always of the opinion that the original Tribes maps kicked ass, I hated most of the player made maps...and so far I'm finding the maps for Tribes 2 difficult. It's tough, to say the least, to know when your flag is taken, and on the maps I've played, almost impossible to see enemies before they are on top of you...though this may be due to the sensor coverage of said maps.

and from what i understand, getManagerName() is the same as getManagerId() in Tribes2.

actually, i found the new bind method alot easier to keep track of than the make/break of old. but i'm still stumped on finding the T2 version of getItemCount, and it's seriously breaking alot of my scripts.and from what i understand, getManagerName() is the same as getManagerId() in Tribes2.

Anyway, I wave to him, and he yells: "Hey, Luc, they got your game in!" And he just tosses me a box, and says "Keep the change!"
I ran up and pumped his hand so fervently that I think I might have hurt him. Then I sprinted back home and installed it . . . and even though I have a Voodoo3, I didn't get hit by any of the problems. Hmm, maybe it's because I'm not running any of the Glide cheats :P Anyway, I played it SOLID up until a few hours ago, and baby baby I am still psyched. It is everything you guys said it was going to be. I almost wet myself thinking of how much I could do with teh source code.
You guys have done an incredible job here. Keep it up, guys. :)

I just got Tribes 2 last night, late at night; I was walking home from work at a local restaurant (yeah, go ahead and laugh, but I'm only 17. What's your excuse?) and I noticed that a truck was unloading at our local OnCue store. So I walked that way . . . the manager there is a really cool fat guy; he's a serious gamer himself, and I've been at his store every day for the last 3 days eatching him open his shipments, just in case Tribes 2 showed up.Anyway, I wave to him, and he yells: "Hey, Luc, they got your game in!" And he just tosses me a box, and says "Keep the change!"

:o
Of course, you're counting on game royalties for most of your revenue. But basically, what you're saying is that you'll be able to recoup costs without selling a game?
That would mean you guys are doing PDG. (Purty Dang Good). The local business I'm designing a web page for has debt>=$30,000, which might not sound like a lot, but they're not in a high-volume business.
Yet. (That's where I come in :) )

It makes me wonder if some people are just upset about the security features and couldn't get their friend's copies to run on their systems. :-)

The people that I see still playing Tribes (original) are pretty miffed about some bugs in T2, but very few seem to want to explaint hese bugs.. I did get one.. seems the locate friend feature doesnt work.It makes me wonder if some people are just upset about the security features and couldn't get their friend's copies to run on their systems. :-)

Tribes 2 will catch on with the hard cores soon. Tribes 1 was the same way when it came out, buggy, it only ran on Glide...and when it moved to OpenGL...more buggy. Pretty soon Tribes 2 servers will be established as "good servers" and the ammount of yahoos with cable modems hosting T2 servers will decreases, and life will once again go smoothly. (And with any luck all the idiots who picked up T2 thinking, "Ooo, a first person shooter, I've always wanted to try one of these," will either get better, or go back to Starcraft)
