Dance Programs for Consoles

Okay, this is going to sound wierd but I just got a cool game for Christmas. It is the Dance Dance Revolution for Xbox. This is a game I would NEVER have bought at the store myself. My step-father in law bought it and gave it to my kids. I started playing it today and I have to say it is really fun. Not only does it get me up off my arse, but it is fun to learn the steps of the dance moves. Everyone in the family likes it. I will probably be investing in more dance pads so many people can play at the same time.
The thing is, before I tried it out I would never have bought this for myself. If I dared to I would have asked them to put it in a brown bag so people would not know what I bought. : )

Yah, it is fun. I just had my wife bring home another pad on the way home from running errands. It is kind of funny, but I am now thinking about pulling out my NES stuff and see if I can't modify one of my Xbox controllers to use the bigger pad. Remember that big one with all the buttons that was used for track and field.

If you have a PS2, you should try the DDR version that works with the eyetoy - my kids love it.

Invest in a heavy-duty pad. It will take the wear and tear that you will give it. A pain to store, though.

My wife loves it as well. I would like it if I had any coordinated rythm :(

The chicken and the egg man.
Unless you do, you won't. Just set the speed to 1 and try it. We had to start at 1 cause we all suck.
My 2nd daughter takes her two and smacks the pad several times in a row hoping to get it right.

DDR I think is proof in concept of how a simple idea, complete with simple play mechanics, can become something huge. The game code couldn't be all that complex (I suspect it could be quite easy to duplicate in Torque2D). The fact of matter is that it is a simple idea that was completed - what makes the game isn't the big names doing the songs, but how insanely fun the game itself is!
Konami has a whole line of games in the same series that DDR is in (the title of this series currently escapes me) which includes Beatmania, Drum Freaks, Pop N' Music, Para-Para Paradise and a number of other games. Check out www.ddrfreak.com for TONS of DDR info, including locations across the world! =)
Enjoy DDR, Frank, and welcome to the club. ;)
