GG loading logo

by Dylan Jones · in Torque Game Engine · 11/19/2005 (8:01 pm) · 61 replies

I dont remember reading anywhere that the that main gg picture had to be one the to advertise the engine. I was wondering if I could change it so it would fit the style of my game, because the white background then all dark into the game is a pretty big contrast. I would like an employee to see if something like this;

www.imouse.hostultra.com/gg.jpg
is allowed? It still says the saying, and made with Torque. Does that little G have to be in it somewhee for me to be able to do this?

If this is not allowed then I wil keep the orginal logo.

ps. I thought I could do this because EA usually has different loading screen logos for different games.

Take care!

@Scott Coursey, yes, I realise that and even mentioned it myself further up this thread. In the thread I gave a link for, there is a link to a Torque logo in a post by Alex Swanson (two posts above the link to the GG logo in the post by Jeff Tunnell).

@Jason Farmer, there is an animated version of the TGE logo included with the TGE demo. I'm not sure if we're allowed to use that, but it shouldn't need altering.

@Wysardry, It's been a while since I ran the TGE Demo, but I thought the animated logo was the old style.. I was thinking about the Red T logo. Was thinking about doing something with that... It's a nice shape and as long as it was done within the spirit of the agreement, one could make a really cool animation with it.

As Jeff T. mentioned above, we are aware of the questions and issues regarding the Torque logo licensing requirements, and are in the process as we speak to streamline adding in the required logos (for the Indie license) to your project. Please stay tuned as to which logos are authorized, and specific information on the requirements!

Ok, Are we allowed to have our own logo appear after the GG logo, when the game starts up?

I don't think there's anything in the EULA to stop that or any desire to.

As long as the Torque logo is used to promote that the game was made using the Torque engine and not any actual affiliation with your company... hence the need for it to be full screen.

But if you look at any game written using the Torque engine, there's usually a couple of splash screens on loadup.. one Torque screen and a development company one.

As Stephen says, we should wait for clarification. I for one am not even at the point where I need to start worrying about splash screens, but I want to know what my obligations are and what flexibility I have for producing a polished product at the end of the day.

I was told once by a GG employee(a long time ago, probably from an outdate EULA) that I could modify the TGE logo slightly to make it fit better with my game. I've been using this splash screen ever since then. Is this (custom) start up screen against the EULA?

Josh, I take it that's an animated dts?.. looks very cool. I was thinking something along those lines...

It's pretty clear what it is anyhow.

I think GG might get worried that if they say we can use Authorised images only, any exceptions to be submitted for authorisation, they'll get inundated with submissions. So they'll either lock it down tight to prevent that or have variations available only as part of a seperate license.

@Jeff | Stephan

Can you include a approved screen that has an all black background in addition to the blinding all white background in the 1.4 release

Let people switch to the all black background if they want.

Much thx mate, Guess now its just a mater of waiting time to see what the new Eula says on them all

Keeping the logo straight forward as they gave it to us should be fine, But we should be allowed to atleast add a background i think, Were still supporting the engine and people can see it either way

C'mon, guys... Splash the official GG/TGE logo, then fade to your own and be done with it.

Sheesh.

Stop trying to side-step their efforts and logos.

I'd have no problem with even Spashing it as you said mate, But how ever i still can't the code into the engine to allow to have splash screens, I have tried elcipse but i can't get it to work at all. And the only other one i got is Visual C++ 2005 Express edition, I'm stuck on only scripting :(

Stephen and Jason, thanks alot! :D

I did understand the EULA, i was just wondering if the logo had to the exact one you send with the engine. The members above made splash page changes, is stuff like that okay?

before I release anything once I get the license I will show you guys the game and anything im not completely sure about(logos, and credit)

I will have a credits part in the game with all the people involved, and at the end I will put the torque logo and links. That should be good right? like a movie credits thing rolling up the screen.

Take Care!

I feel like you guys are making too much of this. Look at any game that uses licensed products. You don't see anyone modifying the Havok Logo. It's one splash screen. Everything after that do whatever you want creatively.

I agree, this nothing to lose any sleep over, though I do thinkg it would be nice if GG provided a choice of splash screen w/ white background or splashscreen w/ black background...

Picky? Yeah - dealbreaking? Not by a longshot. (C;
