I've had a few questions in emails that I wanted to discuss here:

1) Where will the Boot Camp be held?

A) We will be holding the Indie TBC in the same place as IGC: Mallard Hall here in Eugene.

2) Do I need a laptop?

A) While you don't have to have a laptop (we will be using the same computers that the rest of IGC will be using), there is absolutely no problem with bringing your laptop for use during the class.

3) What do you mean by seminar style?

A) Boot Camps are most successful when the audience can actively participate in the discussion...as in any classroom environment, attendee participation is critical to the learning process for everyone involved. While we have a list of topics that we need to cover in every session, the seminar itself is a give and take between the instructor and the attendees, including question/answer during the sessions, as well as guided discussions, where the attendees may be making the most contribution, with the instructor guiding the discussion and correcting any technical issues if required.

So.. far.. away...

Ya'll need someone with digital video cam. Then burn stuff like this and parts of the indy con onto DVD's
and sell em.

Randy - yeah! this is a lot of money to spend but on top of that you have travel and time off work. a DVD would be awesome. I'd pay $400 for a torque boot camp training DVD.

We are aware of the variety of needs of both the Indie and Commercial markets for Torque Boot Camp, and have both new (super secret!) technology, as well as distribution plans to meet those needs in the future.

We also however have received feedback that the interactive nature of an "onsite" seminar is worth it's weight in gold for many attendees--they get the chance to ask questions directly, and the give and take nature of a discussion based format leverages everyone's knowledge (or lack thereof) into a much more synergistic information transfer.

For those Indies that have both the time and resources to attend the Boot Camp, I'm 100% positive that it will be an outstanding experience--and for those that may not necessarily have the time or resources to attend this year, we do have additional plans for the future as well to cover your needs!

Would seminar transcripts in PDF format or something be useful to people who cant get there?

Macromedia flash pro would be best. It can make courseware that you can control retail
access too. That is also multimedia and multiplatform supported.

I am very interested in going to the torque boot camp... I just heard about it. I just wanted to know if its right for me. I am aware it says boot camp, but i just bought the game lisence 2 weeks ago and bought the 3d game programming all in one book, and just started reading it. I want to make computer games and hope to work for some company and produce my own games one day. I just wanted to know what level is this camp about. I mean would it be useful for me. I have never been to any camps, and i just wanted to know what it would be like before i spend so much money on it.

I was interested in the Game Conference too. Is that beneficial. Anyone who is able to advise and help me, i would love to hear from you guys. Thank you for your help.

Stephen will have a much better response, but for now checking out the IndieGamesCon website will give you the best info about it, check out the sessions and read through the descriptions to get a good idea what is covered... as you'll find out a lot is covered, I'd recommend it to any new or veteran of Torque.

As far as Torque Boot Camp, this news post describes it well :) I'd suggest that on top of the IndieGamesCon to anyone learning Torque or wanting to learn more and can afford it, it will undoubtedly be worth it.

Just to follow on here:

While the Indie Torque Boot Camp will be most beneficial for those that have good working knowledge of TGE, the topics and style of the seminar are designed to be beneficial to everyone involved in an Indie project with Torque. There may be a few areas that are "over your head", but even so, getting the exposure to these topics early will certainly help your project when the time comes for those particular topics to be important to you.

Personally, I'm hoping for a wide mix of attendees, and the class is designed to be beneficial to everyone from those new to TGE, to those that have been working with it for years. Some topics may be "I already know all about that" to some of the more experienced developers, but in general having that interaction with a wide variety of experience levels will teach everyone a thing or two...and may just enhance your understanding of topics you thought you already knew!

To answer Karan's question: if you already have 3DGPAI1, and are working through it steadily, the Indie Boot Camp will be beneficial to you! And for those that already have strong knowledge of Torque in general, the drill-downs we will do in various engine areas will be extremely beneficial as well.

So far we've gotten 6 confirmed attendees, and an excellent spectrum of Torque experience, so I'm very much looking forward to an extremely dynamic Indie Boot Camp...we have a range from someone that has been working with Torque for more than 3 years, to someone that picked it up just a month ago, and we're looking for even more!

Nuts. I wish I'd found out about the bootcamp BEFORE I bought my IGC airline tickets on expedia. I'd have definitely stayed for it. :(

I am going to make my decision today if I am going to the IGC or not. I know I'm cutting it close on the discounted price. If I go I will definitely be staying for this.

Do you still have spots open for this?
Are you still offering the $400 discounted price for those that are also attending the conference?
How would I sign up / pay for this, is it something I select when signing up for the conference or a separate registration?

Thanks,
Tom Ogburn

Yes, we do still have slots available. To purchase the combined package, simply call our office and ask for Benjamin Bradley, Jay Moore, or myself.
