New Lighting Pack Announcements!

by John Kabus (BobTheCBuilder) · in · 04/27/2005 (6:34 pm) · 24 replies

Hello Lighting Pack community,

I'm very pleased to announce the release of the Lighting Pack for TGE version 1.3.5 and the addition of a new private Lighting Pack forum!

The latest Lighting Pack release is a massive update that doubles the Lighting Pack's capabilities: it introduces as many new features as already existed in the previous version. The new features include cinematic lighting tools, a powerful new Light Editor, and even illuminated particle systems.

The latest Lighting Pack release is located on the Lighting Pack Download page, which you can access through the Lighting Pack link in the 'Downloadable Products You Own' section of 'My Garage' (both versions 1.3.5 and 1.3 are available for download).

This Lighting Pack release is available to the Lighting Pack community before the official marketing push and development shots - so you get first crack at all the latest features. This was done so you don't have to wait, but also because I was too excited to wait. :)

The official release notes covering all of the latest features are posted in the new private Lighting Pack forum.

Speaking of the the new Lighting Pack forum... we now have a private forum! The new private forum was created to allow us to swap ideas, code, and tweaks that we might not be able to post in the public forum. This will allow us to go into greater depth in our discussions, making it easier to work out our ideas.

Well it's been an exciting few weeks getting all of this together and released (thanks to help from the GarageGames crew!) - now join me over in the private forums!

WOW! Thanks for the continued development John! I didn't even know this was in the works. It's always good to get surprises.

I was wondering just the other day why there was not a private forum for LP users... Poof.. It's done!

Wow this is a huge F**** update, John you never cease to amaze, these new tools I'm looking at are awesome, in fact, half the stuff in here I was just complaining about to Ben the other day, especially the need for zone-restricted lighting. :-)

Once again, you rock! The zoned lighting is sweet and will really make a big difference. Thanks again for the time and effort on this, you go far above and beyond what is expected!

Ok, ok - I understand.

You want to force me to buy it, John.

But I can resist, you know? I don't need good lighting in my game. No, not me!

Hah!

(*big, evil, laugh. reverberating and fading into the - well, darkness, of course*)

[Edit] bought it.

When will the final 1.3.5 be released?

Hi Kuni,

I've been trying to answer you all day, but ever since the site changeover I haven't been able to post anything longer than a few characters in the private forum.

The Lighting Pack 1.3.5 release is already available - I'll post updated docs when they're ready.

Does the lighting pack private forum still exist ?

It only says 'this forum has no threads' when i visit,
and doesn't show up in the big forums master index.

Hi Orion,

It definitely still exists. :)

That message appears when you don't have access to the forum. I see you're a student likely at one of the schools using the Torque Lighting Kit. I'm assuming that the problem is related to the license being associated with the school and not your profile - I recall seeing other posts similar to this on the site regarding other products.

Verify with the professor teaching your class that this is the correct account to use for forum access. I'm assuming GarageGames provides special instructions for accessing the forums, which may be as simple as contacting GarageGames to setup your profile.

Let me know if this helps get things going,

Just to note, Evil Twin Studios is actually a commercial account, not a student one. I'm working on getting that tag fixed right now, as well as the forum access issue.

(EDIT: Fixed)

Any update on the docs? I just bought 1.3.5 and the docs are from 1.2...

EDIT:
never mind... I see the release notes...

Is this update compatible with the RTS kit support recently released? My coder Greg purchased the TLK a couple weeks ago so I could integrate support for it in the RTS Environment pack I am working on.

I have not yet played with the new build he set up for me (I am holding of on the TLK support work until I wrap up all of my first pass work on the last of the 5 environments in the pack).

Todd,

The new build I sent you is integrated with the v1.3.5 Lighting Kit. Check it out as soon as you get a chance, it makes a big difference in the look of outdoor environments.

John, the Auto-patch tool worked great. Made the whole merge process quite smooth.
