I am disgusted at the thought that some no name jerks would go and make a web comic claiming that Torque is a crappy game engine and how people who are slaving away day in and day out so that they can provide excelent tools at an extremely affordable rate should be punished for helping to make Torque a reality.

What a bunch of ass clowns. EDIT: Ah, right, it's some guys from the 3DGS community - a competing game engine. NOW things make more sense... I guess it's a cheap shot in what I hope is just a friendly rivalry.

It looks like someone just doctored up some other webcomic to have two people beat on someone from GG for making "a bad game engine." That's really it. I'm not sure who it was really making fun of, honestly...EDIT: Ah, right, it's some guys from the 3DGS community - a competing game engine. NOW things make more sense... I guess it's a cheap shot in what I hope is just a friendly rivalry.

The "comic" was made by ripping off a previously-existing comic, stuffing some custom crap into it, and then the end result is complete garbage?
03/18/2005 (1:18 pm)
I think this is pretty sweet, actually. Anyone else see a really good link between this comic and games made with A6?The "comic" was made by ripping off a previously-existing comic, stuffing some custom crap into it, and then the end result is complete garbage?

I guess we could make our own comic but I think it would look better then any game coming out of that craptastic engine

Speaking of ripping off, that moderator's avatar is also a ripoff of a rather popular CGTalk.com painting. :-p

The 3DGS community has always been down on any competing engine, so I'm not surprised. The community is actually a really good and helpful one. It's tailored specifically towards 3DGS (much like the Tokamak community usually doesn't want to hear about how exciting Newton is). The social topics can be pretty brutal though. The development areas are quite helpful (for 3DGS users). Personally, I prefer both the Blitz and GG communities, but that could be because I'm not using A6 for anything and I play around with BlitzMax and Blitz3D and use TGE/T2D every day. I do really like WED, though. It's an extremely intuitive CSG editor.

Seriously though, torque has always had a behemoth of an advertising campaign and that is why Torque is known and 3DGS isn't.
All the same, there is such a thing as going overboard. As I have stated before, the Torque economic model is constantly under revision and I know from first hand accounts that their Advertising Heavy approach has hurt them quite a bit in the past. At times it seems that their constant changes are like a drowing person gasping for air and at other times it just seems like they can't leave well enough alone.
Perhaps it is because the demo tried to remind me of Half-Life2 and failed.
I thought Half-Life 2 because of a few things:
1 - The hovercraft ... a prominant vehicle in HL2
2 - The ruined city ... another prominant part of HL2
3 - Soldiers everywhere ... another similar thing to HL2
4 - Stuff falling from the sky to bombard you ... HL2 again
Talking to some Garage Games insiders off-the-record it seems that they are and have been spending more money than making it, basically following a dot-com business model.
LMAO
