Isle of Man Seeks Gaming Companies

by David Wyand · in General Discussion · 02/23/2005 (8:28 pm) · 17 replies

Greetings!

I caught this one on Gamasutra. The self-governed island state, The Isle of Man, is offering some interesting incentives for game companies to set up shop there: from 0% business tax to financial help in setting up the physical business. And their personal income tax is very low, at least by Canadian standards.

Out of pure curiosity: anyone know what it would be like to live on the Isle?

If only Ontario had such an incentive program...

I read that with interest as well ... seems they'll pay 40% for you to get physically established with offices and 50% for training employees. Pretty amazing!

Just what I want for my business, the VAT and stupidly high fuel prices. Even though I would LOVE to live on a Commonwealth island I think I'll keep my business in the US. Interesting article either way though, and nice incentives theyre offering.

VAT is pretty handy if you are establishing a business with very little income in the beginning as you can claim it back on VATable items you purchase such as computers etc, and you dont charge it on items sold to the states etc.

As for fuel, well, the islands not 'that' big, especially if you come from the states.

The place also gets invaded by hordes of hairy arsed bikers for the Isle of Man TT, so I could come visit with my mates and camp out on your lawn.....

The concepts of "Bizarre" and "Freaking Awesome" had a one night stand. This is their love child

David, the neighboring province has one. Granted, personal income tax, is the highest in North America, but Montreal's cost of living vs quality of life is one of the best, and even the best according to some measurements for a urban center with a million+ people.
Setting up shop here means you get 50% of each employee's salary as tax credits.
I have no idea if you need to set up a Quebec corporation or if a Federal corp will do the trick :)

With regards to the Isle, the housing prices might make you blink :)

Lol, I mention Quebec and you guys think of poutine and girls, not the Habs, not Ubisoft, not EA Montreal, etc. :)
Geeks, I tell you, all they can think about is sex and food ;)
