They are both different. I bought Think Tanks already before the newest Lore demo. I almost bought Lore and probably will soon, but it ran a bit wonky on my system ... the GUI occasionally didn't work right (kept playing menu sound effects and also had a strange problem where pressing forward would walk backward ... which would be reset when I quit and restarted, but it just popped up in the middle of the game ...). On the gameplay side of things ... Think Tanks is quicker in and out ... play a scrum match here or there and it can be quick fun. Lore can be similar but it seems to be a little more in depth and has a different ambiance. I can't actually recommend one over the other ... sorry ;) Both are good games and different experiences. Also have to point out that Think Tanks has some excellent graphics in some of the maps which aren't included in the demo which might impress you more ... although it might not be the same as Lore for you.

Bottom line buy them both!

oh ... and get a copy of Aerial Antics too ;)

Think Tanks and Lore are two entirely different games. You can't even come close to comparing the two. Think Tanks is a cartoonish adaptation (at least in my opionion) of Atari's old Combat title. It has superb AI, fun gameplay, it's easy to pick up, and entertains for hours.

Lore, on the otherhand, is an in-depth game with a lot of controls and options. It takes a more serious look at warfare, and does a nice job of it. I, myself, have only played the demo from way back. So, on that I can't talk too much -- as it has evolved so much since then.

Both games are excellent titles. Both were worked on by dedicated teams using modified versions of the Torque Engine. Both are a collection of blood, sweat, and tears by their respective developers.

Here's a simple way to decide:

1) Do you like cartoonish, quick, fast-paced gaming? --> Think Tanks
2) Do you like in-depth, developed, slow-developing warfare? --> Lore

However, if you have the $$$, I'd say "Get them both!" You won't be disappointed!

Lore is in a beta stage so i better buy Think Tank's cause T.T include's story mode/solo-mode with bosses in the full version so i suggest to get think tank's tough Lore can never be single player so i will buy Think Tank's also T.T has a forum here too and Lore don't but anyway i buy T.T :)

Thank you for comparing our indie title to a multimillion dollar budget game. Even though you rate us lower than the other game, I appreciate being compared.

@ Jean

Actually there is a lot of growth left with Lore including a single player campaign amongst many other things (such as advanced lighting, new AI code for kick ass bots, plenty of new mission maps, weapons and more).

I am sorry that you were not pleased with the "Early Adopters" demo of Lore as it did not meet what you were after at this time, but I hope that you will keep it in mind and/or at least continue to play it via the demo as we continue to make Lore into what will likely be the largest and most encompassing feature rich Torque based product to ever be developed.

Also as for forums for the two games. The official Think Tanks forum is on Planet Think Tanks while the official Dark Horizons Lore forums are on the Dark Horizons Official Web Site.

Lore's definately not in the beta stage - I know, I was there ;-) It's in Early Adopter's status, meaning that although the game is released, there's lots more to come. As a bonus for buying it early, you get the additional content later included in the lower Early Adopter's price. If you were to wait to buy it until it's fully Gold, it'd cost a little more.

Jeremy Alessi mentioned that his controls would reverse? That's actually a throttle reverse key, and is used by some players to quickly switch directions. It's default binding is the \ key, and toggles the effect. That's why it reset when he left the game.
ALL controls are now completely remappable, so if you want you can pretty much disable that control by binding it to a key you'll never ever knock ingame (eg, the * button on the numberpad). Of course, if you prefer the joystick mech-sim feel to the FPS-shooter feel, you can configure the controls to suit that and most likely find a need for that reverse throttle key :)

The community is also more heavily involved in this game than any other I've played (I've played a lot). Not many games have player-contributed-content included, such as the relatively new Air Strike. More will come, no doubt.

Player support, well I'm gonna say it's excellent coz I do part of that, but it actually is. You've got a bug or issue, the Devs take time to get to know your particular problem. Got ideas for the game? They listen.

Until I played Lore, the only other mechy-game I liked was the Armoured Core series on the Playstation. Otherwise I've been a space-combat pilot through and through. Freespace 1 & 2, XBTF/XT/X

care ot elaborate on that one? lore is not an engine, it is a game built using the Torque game engine; which happens to be the same engine used to build TT, Orbz and MB

I think everyone should buy a copy of ThinkTanks. We are nice guys and we like money.

Maybe we should do a 2 for 1, Lore and Think Tanks bundle since there seems to be so many people that want both? :)

Lol @ Maruschak

Why are these compared anyway? :) They are even claimed to be different engines by the original poster, and his view changes between his posts all the time.

Obviously you don't know anything about the games in question Jean.
Also, compare the price of Lore/ThinkTanks with Doom 3. And compare the production costs. There you go.

I'd like to see a Super Smash Bros style game put out by GG with all the GG titles:

Tennis Squirrel vs Lore mech...
Think Tank vs Aerial Antic guy...
Orb vs "marble"...
Chain Reaction Purple Monster vs. BraveTree Content Pack car...
Synapse Lighting Pack vs IGC E-Ticket...

Man, this game would be more fun than Street Fighter vs Capcom vs Carpal Tunnel...
