Thanks in advance.

Nope, you're wrong. There's no problems here with upgrading to SP2, so it's got to be something else that ain't working right on your end.

See if SP2 changed your video drivers, or your Direct X installation.

Perhaps this article will shed some light on the situation.

Note that Tribes 2 (which is based on TGE) is mentioned in the list of games potentially affected.

We have had issues wtih SP2 at work, read a few news articles on the web listing issues with it etc. We had issues with MS's own applications/features not working after installing SP2. I think it might be wise (as we have done at work) to uninstall SP2 and wait for MS to fix it.

The XP updates ruined my cd/dvd writer. It doesn't work at all anymore.

The joys of OS upgrades!

If you find that SP2 breaks Torque, please make sure you have the latest drivers installed - you may need to run Driver Cleaner to get them truly working properly. If it's still broken, please post any information you can - reproduction instructions, info from the debugger, and so forth.

Mmmm, I installed it and after a few configurations it works just fine, no probs. Josh might wanan right click on your cd-burner and check "Write to this drive" or soemthign along those lines. I even beta tested the network version of SP2.

Yup, got problems too after going to SP2. Now when running the game everything freezes (randomly at differnt times in the game) and the system does a reboot. Can't get any information from windows or logs... I am going to try reinstalling video drivers...sigh

Update: Reinstalling video drivers did not fix the problem. I uninstalled SP2 and all is fine now. When I get time I will try to narrow down the problem, but I am not the best person to do this kind of investigation. I am worried about distributing the game to folks who have installed SP2 and not being able to tell them how to fix the problem(s)? This could become a real nightmare.

I used the original graphics drivers that were supplied on cd, did not update them from the web and all works again. SP2 must supports updated drivers that may not work on your current card, due to the onboard firmware. In the end you will need to make sure that customers with SP2 can use your game, so it may be worth doing some testing and provide it as a FAQ in your readme file or documentation in the event that customers have a problem.

Somehow I think it is not the video drivers in my case. Like I said I reinstalled the ones that came with the card (Geforce 6800, the card is relatively new and there aren't new drivers anyway) and it did not help.

This seems to be a problem with something else. I mean the system crashes hard and twice I have had to restore the executable to get the game to run. First thing that comes to mind is that I have screwed something up in the code, but as I said before now that I have uninstalled SP2 all works fine. Weird. Going to bed now, got "regular work" in the morning.

With SP1, my computer blue-screened on me about twice a month. Now, with SP2, I'm counting over 5 BSOD's a day with lots of wonderful new errors such as MACHINE_CHECK. I'm going back to SP1 and gonna enjoy my quality Mac laptop instead.

(And this is why I can't WAIT to get a nice new G5 setup to replace my Windoze machine as a mission-critical system.)

I did when I had some bad drivers installed on my work system. TSE would crash it, hard, pretty reliably.

I have heard a few people mention on the 3DS Max boards over at Discreet that they somehow got an OpenGL 1.1 driver from Microsoft on their XP system (both of them are running XP SP2, so it is possible that OpenGL 1.1 drivers slipped into SP2 though this is not confirmed). The end result is that the OpenGL 1.1 driver is trying to take priority over the newer drivers for their cards, thus giving them lackluster performance.

This is very wierd because Microsoft doesn't develop or release OpenGL drivers anymore and hasn't done so since Windows 2000, but there might be a common issue between that problem within 3DS Max and any issues that people are having here.

Please note that this is speculation at this time, I am not confirming that old OpenGL drivers are in SP2, just pointing that there might be the possibility that should be checked into and confirmed.
