Tribes

by Chris "Had Chris First" · in General Discussion · 05/04/2004 (4:46 pm) · 22 replies

I recently downloaded the free tribes 1, and it is so nostalgic. No other game has had an impact on my life like tribes 1. I just cannot believe how great that game is, I grew up with it. Waking up in the mornings before school(3rd grade)just to try out the vehicles. I just wish that the original team would make a new one, but that will never happen, but I can dream eh? Sigh...

I used to play tribes 1 at my high school in my computer class. I would always be the one helping other people because I would be done with my assignment in no time and so when I was not helping people I was playing tribes 1 and hum also half life when it came out... ah such great games! Memories!

Fileplanet has Tribes 1 & 2 for free download.
This is awesome since my Tribes 2 CD broke about a year ago. I'm downloading right now, I'll definately be very busy tonight. :)
That fileplanet membership finally came in handy, 800kbs!

Why did it have to be Fileplanet... and Gamespy? Good lord, just burn a hole in one of my various organs with some molten hot branding iron, forged within hell by the Prince of Lies himself.

Tribes 2 is one of my favourite games in the entire world, mainly due to it's incredible movement system. A word to anyone trying it out: give it some time! it takes a few days of frustration before you start getting the hang of it.

It's on the cover DVD of the June issue of Computer Gaming World so it's worth the 10$ for the rag to get it, along with some other demos and a good bedtime read.

Not bad, I played online for the first time today.

578 Score
32 Kills
7 Deaths

5 Flag Captures

Play seems a little one sided, many times I capped the flag without even getting touched.
Jet around the side to avoid the big guns.
Scoop up the flag, jet until im at 25% energy/boost/whatever then ski home.

Bought CGW today with Tribes 1 and 2 on DVD for free(full version). Woo Hoo, what I missed out on! I love the weapons, gameplay and vehicles on T1(haven't tried T2 yet). I wanted to try the Tribes games to see what Torque can do. I'm sold!

Hurry up and buy a copy of CGW since the issue is pulled off display May 31st 2004.

Robert,

I'm pretty new to network/ server games, but what I see from Tribes, I'm impressed with gameplay. It sounds fun.

Now, you say Legends is coming along? Tell me more. Does it require a supercharged video card(i.e., with 8XAGP) and fast internet connection(DSL, Cable)?

I'm running on a pretty basic system (compaq-circa2000AD), Celeron with built in video/sound. Decent memory at 128/64.

Must I upgrade?

I think I answered my own question when trying to run installed Tribes 2 today. I don't think my on-board video card cuts the mustard. Can someone recommend a bargain basement PCI video card?

Thanks.

Just make sure that you get a card from nVidia (GeForce) or ATI (Radeon), you can get pretty good deals (sub-$100) on pretty sweet graphics cards these days. www.newegg.com is a good (and trustworthy) place to look for good deals online.

Alternately, look on www.pricewatch.com - but be sure to check out the company that you are ordering from at www.resellerratings.com to make sure they are legit.
