Installation Issues...

Hello all,
I'm trying to download and install the latest version of Torque 2D (which I purchased back in 2011 and can still download from the appropriate place on the Garage Games website) on my new computer, which is currently running Windows 8.1. I can download the .zip file fine, but there's no installer; I can't find the installer in the zipped folder. I can find the application in the unzipped folder but it's apparently not the installer, but the main program. I double click on it and nothing happens.
Maybe I'm just an idiot here, but what am I doing wrong? Did I miss something on the download page? Is Torque 2D not compatible with Windows 8.1? Please explain...I so want to be able to use this program! :(

I have no idea if it supports Windows 8.1 - if it doesn't then I would suggest upgrading to the latest version of T2D, the commercial engine is dead and the vast majority of us have moved on to the MIT version. The wiki page link above has links to binary file downloads or the source code if you wish to compile it yourself.

Just a small correction - the wiki and tutorials Lukas kindly pointed out are for the current, open source version of T2D. It sounds like you wish to use the old commercial version though Phillip? Ah yes sorry, I just read "the latest" and assumed it was the MIT version.

I don't know what your environment is set up like - try right-clicking the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator". You might also have to fiddle with UAC settings. And remember not to install it to your Program Files folder - Windows won't let you do certain things (like write save game files) within that folder.

It doesn't "support" Windows 8 or 8.1 but it works - I've got it installed myself.I don't know what your environment is set up like - try right-clicking the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator". Apparently I confused the paid commercial version with the MIT version; when I read there was a new version I thought I'd be able to download said version through my account, but apparently it wasn't the same thing. LOL. My goof - I'll try out the MIT version. It looks like it's free, anyway.
Thanks for the help!

It is indeed free.

There are some great "Getting Started" tutorials there, more specifically this one seems to suit your needs.
I don't believe there are any installers for T2D, you just download the engine, unpack it whereever you want it to be and begin working with it.
Torque2D is (from experience) compatible with Windows 8.1, do you see a console.log anywhere next to the .exe? If you do, could you then share the content here, just to make sure that there isn't an issue with the engine.
