Material Editing - Some Issues

Hello,
I am using Torque3D MIT version 2.0
1. How can I edit the material properties of the trees that I paint over the terrain using the forest editor ?
2. In the material when I try to create a new material and save it under a custom name instead of the default naming of NewMaterial1..2..3 , I fail to find it anywhere in the main material palette ( where all other pre-existing materials are present ). So how do I create my own custom re-usable material ?
