How to avoid annoying game lock ?

by Alessandro · in Torque 3D Beginner · 08/09/2012 (6:32 am) · 9 replies

Hello,
I noticed that when I try to use some demo like Mars, or Island (big scenario) the game periodically "locks" (freeze) for some moments (1 second?). It seems like if it is loading or caching something.
Before I start to make my game, I wish to know if this effect can be eliminated. If so, why don't you eliminate it from the demos? It is not a nice effect, even because that is weird!
How can be eliminated?
Is there any way to make a kind of preload (is that the problem)?

Thank you!

Hmm could you specify the problem? I never noticed any freezing. When does it happen and how do you make it happen?

For example, if I try to run the game demo DeathBall Desert (from Torque 1.2 Toolbox), when I start to explore the scenario, sometimes (often) the game freeze for a moment, then continue.
I had this effect even in tropical island (tried in Version 1.1). In that island, this effect also happened when I destroyed some objects. Maybe the engine was loading the broken meshes.

I have a quad code Q6600 and nVidia GTX260. 4Gb Ram.

Try making sure that all your drivers are updated and you have the latest version of DX etc etc.
I do not experience this issue so it might be a problem with your drivers or hardware.

Maybe you recompiled the demo using the engine?
Have you any issues using island demo? no game freeze for a moment?

Tried, and the situation seems a little bit improved, but Pacific island still lags.
