Limitation of number of Materials? Possible bug in Material Editor?

Is there a limitation on the number of Materials you can use? Or does the Material-editor has a limitation on the number of lines written to file?
I ask so because I see some strange behaviour with newly added materials. They seem to disappear or in other words: I see the Warning Texture on surfaces which I know I have defined a Material for?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Edit:
Added "possible bug in Material Editor?" to the title, maybe some more people can confirm this behaviour.
I am using Windows XP and T3D 1.1 final

Yes I did, and the materials were updated in the world editor (I see the changes made in the material-editor like adding normal maps, etc. and saved them). The problem occurs when I reload the mission, some of the changed materials have disappeared and when I look into the materials.cs file they are no longer there. as a matter of fact they don't exist anywhere in the project.

I'm sorry to say that I've got the same problem as you described.

Therefore I added "possible bug" to the title of the post.

It seems that this problem is caused by the material editor, but I don't know how and why yet. It might be a bug in the editor when saving a material and it seems that it happens on objects with more than 1 material assigned to it, but as I said, I'm not completely sure if this is the case, and when to expect it. Maybe the size of the corresponding materials.cs might have something to do with it. It surely needs some more investigations and when I have more insight in what is causing this and how to reproduce it, I will post a bug report (if it is a bug). Therefore I added "possible bug" to the title of the post.

I'm fairly sure I have this problem as well. In 1.1 sometimes previously working materials, materials that have had no change to them whatsoever and used to work, disappear upon loading the mission. Running the file deletecacheddtss.bat seems to correct the problem, but I have no idea what causes it in the first place.

The Material editor, imo, has been wonky since the start. A number of problems have been fixed, but....I'm fairly sure I have this problem as well. One would expect that this bug would have been fixed by now.
The Material system is horrible.
It's just frustrating that after I put so much time into getting the right results, then coming back to the same mesh, and everything dissapears. Just horrible.
Please, G.G., make it a priority to fix the Material system!

As I'm not the only one with this problem I'm going to put this into a real Bug-report.

I've had this problem before, though I can't remember exactly what I did that triggered it. However, if you hit save on the material I don't think it actually disappears, it just doesn't get assigned properly.
