T3D 1.1 Beta 3 - Loading PostFx profile crashes engine - RESOLVED
by 000 · in Torque 3D Professional · 02/23/2011 (1:41 pm) · 10 replies
When loading a created PostFx profile inside the World Editor inside of a 'complex' scene (20-30 models, terrain, polycount scene ranging between 500k-700k) T3D hard crashes out of the editor. I have to load the 'Blank Room' level, then load the PostFx profile, then load my 'complex' map scene for the PostFx to be loaded and not crash.
Unsure how to explain it better, if you require more details please let me know.
Development system: Windows XP 32bit, Q6600, 4GB, 8800GTS 512MB.

I'm looking into your issue and wasn't able to reproduce it. Could you provide a couple more details?
I'm mainly interested in the following...
-I used the following PostFX resource to test the bug. Can you get it to crash using this resource? www.garagegames.com/community/blogs/view/20663
-What line/file does it actually crash on, and are there any error messages?
-Are you having a good day? : ) [I feel like these need to come in threes, and I couldn't think of a third question to ask]
Get back to me and I'll look further into the issue. Thanks!

I'm doing alright, thanks for asking, hope things are well with you as well!
I've recently, within the last 2 weeks, done a complete reinstall of my machine and I now can't seem to replicate the issue. I've aggressively tried to get it to crash while loading the PostFX profile with no such luck.
If you like you could probably close this, if it pops up again I'll open up another thread and link to this one for reference.

So I'm still a little in the dark about some parts of the PostFx manager. It seems that you're able to save PostFx profiles, but how do you setup the "Effects Quality" levels. There's a drop down menu for it, but no way to add things to that menu. At least not from what I've seen.

+) Launch the World Editor and choose your map
+) Ensure Advanced Lighting is enabled
+) Go to EDIT then POSTFX MANAGER, make sure it's ENABLED
+) Adjust the various settings as you like with the slider bars
+) When you're done click on SAVE PRESET and name your profile
+) You're done! Whenever you want to load the profile again, go to the POSTFX manager and LOAD PRESET
I'm unsure how to get the profile to load when you play the game however, outside the editor tools.

I ran into it finally. Loaded my PostFx profile into a map I was editing (adjusting texture properties on some models, namely texture animation) and T3D crashed. This pops up over the editor and closes.

@Mack I'm part of the QA Team for GarageGames and I have been assigned to this ticket to see if I can recreate the issue you are having with our engine. I haven't been able to reproduce the issue you are having and was wondering if you could give me some more detail on this issue. What graphic options do you have selected? Would you also be willing to send me the PostFx in question as well as the complex scene? My email is Chris@garagegames.com

So we've determined that 3rd party HLSL shader code is causing the crashing. The PostFx profile loads no problem without it but crashes when it's present. Thanks to Chris, Ray and everyone else at GarageGames involved in working this out with me!
