[DISREGARD]Torque X 2D game in need of icons

by Ron Barbosa · in Torque X 2D · 07/25/2010 (11:36 pm) · 7 replies

Hey all...I've been on the hunt for all manner of game art, but now I'm looking for icons for in-game power-ups and items.

Does anyone know of a good online source for icons that I can either buy or license? My artwork skills are ... pretty terrible, and even though it shouldn't matter for this stage of the game's development, I find the lack of imagery is killing my progress (maybe more accurately...it's killing my motivation). =(

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What kind of game are you making? I may be able to help.

@Donavan Jones, thanks for the response.

The game is set in the future, but not far future. Next 30 years or so. The power-up, inventory icons I'm looking for (so far) are:

1. Health pack
2. Various weapon upgrades (double shot, triple shot, increased rate of fire, increased projectile speed)
3. Ammo pack
4. Power module (for shields and weapons that require "juice")

That's about what I need for the near term. But I'd like to work with someone that I can continue to exchange ideas with and get new icons (obviously if we can find an agreeable price).

I'd also be interested in a blank icon template, that I can work out my own designs for as the game develops and matures.

If you're interested, please contact me via the email address in my profile.

Thanks

I tried that email and it failed so here is that message.

Hello Ron Barbosa,

Cool name! The feel I get from your description is that your game is a top down shooter with different weapons. Like Contra but top down, very cool. I am looking to be apart of a team. 2D games is what I like. Shooters, Platformers and the like. 2D games had rain then 3D came and the 2D games didn't get alot of technolgy ie physics, lighting, shaders. If its cool for me to be apart of your team I will be glad to develop those icons and any art you need.

Thanks,
Donavan Jones

Hey Donavan...responding via email. You can't copy and paste an email address directly from this web site...it's got some hidden characters to protect your email address from getting spammed by bots and screen scrapers.

Hey Ron,

I hope Donovan can help you out. In case he's not the style you're looking for give a shot to DeviantArt ;) It's a great place to find what you need. There are nice groups and resources dedicated to game development. To sign up there is free but I suggest a premium account.

Cheers,
Pino

Thanks, Pino...I've checked out DeviantArt, but I haven't registered for an account yet.

So far Donavan's been showing me some good samples and concepts...so we may be on to something here. :)

[UPDATE] - @Pino...I registered over at Deviant for a free account to see if I can find any value in the site. Can you recommend any specific Deviants whose portfolios I should browse? There's a ton of stuff over there.

Thanks
