Important Post Saved From Flame Thread

Having read through the Warez thread I have pulled the one post out of it that will be of interest to those who switched off before the they got down that far, because of the name calling and pointless bitching, it doesn't relate to the flaming, and has some interesting ideas, the aim is to save it from going unnoticed when it contains a couple of interest ideas and pointers.

Jay Moore:
It is good to have a community with so much passion that we take time to agree to disagree.

I'd like to redirect our collective attention to some things that I believe might assist GG in reaching our commonly held goals:

1) I propose a contest for the 'funnest' FREE game(s) that can be used to promote GarageGames and bring people back to GG to discover fun indie games. With this community, we should be able create the best uber advergame every innovated. It should be fun and small. Easy to email to friends and have something that brings players back to GG.

2) Lets all get the word out whenever and wherever we can about the exciting reemergence of independent game development. Yes, you could say that's my job, but since word-of-mouth marketing is the guerilla marketers stock in trade those who show the kind of passion that has come out in this thread are excellent candidates to spread the word. Also, consider contacting me about the GG Ambassadors effort that is starting to take shape.

3) Be our eyes and ears. As we continue to get the word out watch for news and mentions that should be considered for posting to our news or coverage that should be brought to the attention of our dev. teams - we have no "clipping service" tracking our coverage. Watch for great independent game efforts that could benefit from our belief that we can do more together than we can apart.

4) Consider contributing to our newsletters as we strive to get monthly issues of both GarageGamer and the developer newsletter out each month. This looks like a goal that is going to be a reality based on the efforts of community volunteers.

Very interesting post, thanks Owen!

I've been doing my share of 'word of mouth' whenever I can! I've posted support in many different gaming communities (including G4 ;) and I'm always telling friends and co-workers to check out the GG or Realm Wars websites. I also constantly search around for interesting news articles whenever I can.

I think there should also be a special Free GG Games area for the community to work on. Possibly some simpler games redone with the TGE and then some new and simple, fresh games that show what this community is about - having fun! Then, of course, it could also be where the demos for TGE Official Games are released for public testing. It'd make for an awesome community project, I think!

As for the newsletters, when I start to release additions to the TGE, I'd be more than happy to write up an article about it with a link to the resources and all! A nice way to share IMHO!

There's other possibilities as well, maybe a small advertising campaign solely for the TGE Community and the games we release? How hard is it to send a quick 'look here for some interesting news!' email to an editor for any news site?

There's also other contributions to look at, like this thread and what it will do to help the indie developer.

To me, the possibilities are endless and I think we all would agree to contribute to help everyone in the community to grow for everyone's benifit.

I'd start with this post, possibly use it to plot a course of action to get the ball rolling, discuss the mentioned subjects and post other ideas we could use and how we could work them into a monthly schedual or something so we can get started.

Thanks to Jay Moore for the great post, and Owen "WDA" Ashcroft for posting it for follow-up, nice work! ;)
