Help: how to make text characters clearer?

I'm using Torque 3D, my problem is that the text characters rendered by using T3D in my project is not as clear as the characters rendered by other engines, which can be seen clearly by comparing with other games.
It seems that the characters in other games are much clearer than ours. Anyone knows how to improve the character "rendering quality" and make them clearer? Do we need to draw the characters' contour?
Any resources can be referenced? Thank you very much.

Also - get some fonts that are clear to see when small (a lot of fonts aren't when they're small).
I won't spam an image of my GUI on your thread, but I chose a font based on legibility -> Milibus, used on the chat/info HUD and compass (bottom left). It's good to see small, plus I like Ray Larabie/Typodermic's work - it's not too heavily priced.
Trawl new.myfonts.com - there is even free stuff (but always check the license).

Maybe recompile the UFT files? ... I didn't think they were that bad ... or did I? dang memory I do remember recompiling mine, though - can't remember if I thought I needed to or just as a test ...Also - get some fonts that are clear to see when small (a lot of fonts aren't when they're small).

@Steve those are some nice fonts, I've already grabbed some from there.
