Best modeling Software For Games From Autodesk

Since I am a student, I am able to get a 13 month free license for almost any autodesk product. My question is which one is best for architecture modeling?

Maya does a great job

Hiya.

My suggestion is to go find a couple CG ARchitech forums and ask them. From my personal experience with this quest, I found that 3DS MAX was the most-used for CG Architech stuff (probably because of it's easy import of AutoCAD and the V-RAY renderer...which many CG Architech's swear by).

Personally? Lightwave with LWCAD has some pretty amazing things, however... :)

3D Max is used pretty often for architecture modeling.
Games is Maya nowadays.

3DS Max was originally designed for Architecture. It's now Number 1 for games, Maya is still a distant second, possibly a distant third. Most schools teach Maya now though because it's a better animation tool, but if you're just looking for modeling go with 3DS Max.

You can never go wrong with 3DS Max. Its the #1 tool for 3D in almost every field by a wide margin and outsells the #2 tool (maya) by a factor of 10 and as such its getting a much bigger resource investment for future releaeses than Maya.

With that said you cannot go wrong with using Maya either, there are lots of job opportunities with it and it is a very complete software package. I would avoid XSI though as the opportunities with it are fairly slim, the software though is pretty good.

I would recommend the autodesk entertainment creation suite.
It contains:
* Autodesk Maya
* Autodesk MotionBuilder
* Autodesk Mudbox
* Autodesk SketchBook Pro
* Autodesk Softimage
* Autodesk 3ds Max

For games modelling I would recommend 3d studio max or 3dsmax design.

It will always come down to 3ds Max or Maya.

From my experience, I highly suggest you look into what you need for your game. If you need mostly buildings and simple meshes, I suggest 3ds Max. For more organic and animated shapes, Maya wins by a large margin.

My suggestion, is that since you can get a student version, get both and use them for the designated parts. I found 3ds Max to be impossible to animate with, but I equally found Maya to be too complex for buildings and simple props.

3DSMax is industrial standard. And that creation suite Justin Knight links to is a very sweet treat!

Back in my day they didnt have fancy Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite with a supper low price for students. We had to practice our 3D mesh skills with twigs and pebbles, building a simple cube took hours of dedicated work, course most that time was spent collecting the 'just right' twigs and pebbles (some artist became experts at collecting twigs and pebbles, but i dont think any of them have active portfolios anymore), very few people ever completed their class projects, and the ones who used twigs and pebbles as a modelling app were flunked. Because Binary Space Partition Trees were all the rage back then!

I have never, in all of my 3D computer game art content and sound design career, regretted the endless hours i spent away from friends and family as i honed my 3DSMax skills.

EDIT: To glaze over parts from my youth...

3DSMax and Maya is best for modeling 3D Max For more organic and animated shapes and you can use Cinema 4d.
