Looking for Game Design Experience

Hi everyone I am currently in college and am a Computer Science Major. I am also minoring in digital media and design. I am aspiring to become a game designer once I graduate and am trying to gain as much experience as possible with games that are going to be released. I have taken one game design class where we created a few demos and I was the Team leader / designer and did some programming as well as some art.

As far as design I have created some design documents before as well as level design and essentially designing games from the ground up. To date I have designed 3 games. 1 of which was for the class which we were able to get to a demo state but the semester ended before the game was completed (It was being made in Torque X). I am also working with one team now where I am currently designing two games for them. I am really open for helping with any design aspects. You could be stuck with an area of your game which I could help with or you could need to flesh out an idea. I could also just look over anything you have done and give opinions, etc. I am very open with this because as I mentioned I am mainly looking for resume items and to learn as much as I can for the future. This is an opportunity for me to gain experience, have some released titles under my belt, make a few dollars as a starving student, and you are able to benefit from my cheap/free labor.

I have not taken my 3d modeling classes yet so sadly any art is relegated to 2d. I would also make it known that art is not my major so I would not be expecting anything extremely realistic. I namely have done cartoon style drawings in flash for any projects I needed to do.

I am also able to test anything you have created and give opinions on how things could be improved. I can look for glitches, balancing issues, any problems in general really. I have the most experience with this due to having tested multiple games in the past.

Payment wise everything could be negotiable. It really all depends on what I would be doing and how much work I would be putting into it. I would preferably like to work on projects that will be getting released but I would happily help anyone with their projects in anyway I can. I could work based off a set price, hourly wage, or a percentage of sales if the game is released and you prefer it that way.

Up until now I have not tried to gain experience this way I have mainly helped students on campus with any game projects they have worked on. I quickly found out that most of these students never see things through to the end and I am never able to have a finished product on my resume. I thought that posting this could help more in the future and hopefully that will be the case. If you have any questions on what I could offer feel free to email me at adesilva at umassd . edu
