Well, first I tried to connect. But it said it couldnt load some shapes. And I realized that I was dumb, and so I copied the shapes from my Tribes II directory. THen, i tried to join again. But this time, it crashed. Do I need a different vehicle? Where can I get it? What is going on?

Ah, so not all the scripts do get downloaded :-).

Yeah. We ripped the Wildcat vehicle textures/model from Tribes 2. Which is why we can't release it as a mod. Great fun though! With a little scripting, Matt got it to work just like Tribes2 grav cycle.

Surely you can tell us how to install it ourselves, and perhaps provide a diff of scripts :-)

Sup rjp, I got it to work.. Un-skinned though, don't know where to put the skins. Anyway I rode around on it for a while but now your server is down so I can't mess around with it. :) Good work though, I wanna see the source!

Put the skins in the same folder as the .dts files.

There does seem to be some problems with the vehicle particle emitters though

I've got a few more major bugs to work out in the scripts and then we can release the scripts with directions on how to install the necessary models and textures (read copy them from Tribes 2 =). If someone can figure out the max2dtsexporter enough to provide a new hoverbike model we can make a decent mod out of it. In theory, if you have the proper shapes ans textures (see below) then you should be able to join Ryan's server.

Needed shapes and textures:
jetflare2.png
jetflareside00.ifl
jets00.ifl
vehicle_grav_scout.dts
Vehicle_grav_scout.png
vehicle_grav_scout_debris.dts
Vehicle_grav_scout_pipes.png
Vehicle_grav_scout_windshield.png

These can be found in shapes.vl2 and skins.vl2...copy all of these files into the v12/example/data/shapes/player folder

Trying .. Trying .. will keep trying. The URL might be congested at the moment.

If they own T2 then they could follow the instructions as given by Matth. Please don't distribute Sierra's models and graphics, however good your intentions may be, they will only hurt GarageGames in the long run.

Was there a modified script in the zip download ? If so can you put the scripts up, not the models :)
I can not seem to find where Matt explained how to modify the scripts.

Thanks.

To play on his server you don't have to modify any scripts you just need the .dts files and .png files.

So the player can still hop on the cycle and run around ? Seems like you would need a script controlling the behavior?

The scripts controlling the player and the bike are all server-side.

I am going to be writing a vehicle tutorial in the near future and releasing some scripts with it.

Thanks Matthew, V12 is a fabulous tool for us indie developers, and very complicated without some base reference. I am looking at Tribes2 to get a feel for the scripting, but the .cs files are all compiled .dso. Is there a way to uncompile these, or a better way to go about learning to script the engine ?

Thanks

Just look in your Tribes2/GameData folder and you'll see a lot of .vl2 files...just point your Winzip at them and you'll discover all of the scripts and artwork for Tribes 2 =)

I know this was based off of tribes 2, but will the tribes 2 scripts work? (or at least some of them)

With modifications... Yes (I doubt most 3rd party scripts will work without MAJOR changes)

so No

Support.vl2
HudMover (I may bring over the core functions for people to use)
PJ Super Pack

etc... etc.
