Windows 7 64Bit Problems

by DeSilva · in Torque Game Builder · 03/14/2010 (4:46 pm) · 6 replies

Today i purchased Torque Game Builder and installed it. I also purchased the Adventure kit. When i attempt to open the adventure kit in the builder it pops up with a message box containing "unable to open project". After this I tried to simply open use the builder and if i resize it at the opening screen it seems to have problems. I then open one of the games that is included in the game builder folder and none of them work correctly all the graphics flicker and if i attempt to click on anything the screen freezes.. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit. I had heard good things about TGB and wanted to start using it but it is just impossible to use in this state... I have used torque x in vista before and it worked ok but this just does not work at all. I am aware that their are some windows 7 threads but out of the ones ive looked at i have been unable get anything to work. I was wondering if their was any help I could attain about this? I tried looking through the forums and putting it into compatibility mode and disabling a few things and nothing seems to help.

Ok i was able to finally get the adventure kit to load. It said that it needed to be updated and it did not crash during that point like it did previously. I was then able to get through that but everything in the builder is extremely slow and flickers.

From further research it appears that the only way to fix this is by buying the version with full source and editing it to work? I think I may just dual boot with xp and install there and see if it works there.

Just an FYI, in my case I am currently using Windows 7 Enterprise N x64 with TorqueX Pro and have had no issues with it, TXB or the Platformer Kit.

Are you using Visual Studio 2005, 2008, 2010RC or one of the Express editions?

TX is not the same as TGB. TX is XNA based and works fine on any hardware current enough, TGB though is primarily opengl based and at least ATI are known to have problems with it especially when the windows bar thingy / desktop widgets are used.

I am using Visual Studio 2008. I am also using an Nvidia graphics card. I think what im just going to end up doing is dual booting with xp to use tgb.

I also use Win 7 (64 bit) and found that my issues were solved by simply disabling the desktop composition (disabling aero) when launching the program. While not an ideal solution, it works and is tolerable (assuming this is not one of the options you already tried).

Right click on the program, go to properties, then the Compatibility tab and select "Disable desktop composition".
