Do I uninstall my current version?

by VcDeveloper · in Torque 3D Professional · 02/20/2010 (2:43 am) · 4 replies

I First purchased T3D and download it on 01-22-2010. I followed the download link which of-coarse lead me to my account, but there was no indication of what version I was downloading. Am I correct to assume it is the latest beta version. And if so, do I uninstall my current version to update or will it update automatically?

Also will it contain the latest and same documentation as on. And, by the way some of the screen shoots or either missing or the links are just broken. Look on the "Advanced Cloud Layer" page.

It is OK to have multiple versions of Torque installed on your machine. They are installed as separate directories and do not overwrite or update previous releases in my experience when the installer is run. Please note that I am speaking of the Pro version here, as I have no experience with the binary version.

Currently, I have TGE, TGEA 1.7.1 and 1.8.1, the equivalent AFX version, T3D 1, 1.01, Alpha, Beta and AFX 2 all installed.

Many of releases have unique maps and examples which ship with only that version for technical reasons, but nonetheless remain good references. And of course, one's own maps get embedded in the version tree, especially if you start modifying the source code in any particular build. It is simplest to keep the binary for that release handy, rather than port all your missions forward every time there is a new version, when you are only looking up how you did something earlier.

The latest documentation is always available by opening (in T3D) the Toolbox and flipping the tab near the left top to Documentation. In previous versions TGEA versions it is an HTML directory, or a PDF in TGE 1.5.2.

All the docs should point you towards the Resources and Forums on the Torque site, which is where code snippets and examples are found.

Alpha and beta access is available to Pro licensees only. The latest version for binary users is 1.0.1. 1.1 will become available to binary users with the final release of 1.1. The most up to date documentation will always be the online version here on the site.

OK thanks! Yea, I have the binary version. I have not gone through all the doc's online, but some of the screen shot links are broken on the "Adavnced Cloud Layer" page.

Is there another form to inform GG to correct this?

The docs are in the process of being updated, so some of them are in a work in progress state at the moment. There is a thread in the Torque 3D public forums for documentation feedback. That's the best place to post any errors you may see or any information you'd like to see covered by them.
