Plan for David "RM" Michael
by DavidRM · 01/03/2003 (1:18 pm) · 84 comments
Work on Paintball Net began again last night with our first 2003 team meeting. Very little was accomplished in December. But it was December. Very little ever gets accomplished in December...
Dug continues to work on our player database server. We plan to have at least a simple version of the player database running before the end of January.
Dave Astle is working with the player model data so we can determine where the paintball hit the player.
Lars is creating a library of map objects for use in making new match maps.
David Franson is working on the new player model, though we're going to need to find someone else to do the actual animating (running, jumping, etc.) as he is starting a new book soon.
Jeff's house caught on fire a week ago. He and his family are fine, but he won't be able to work on the project for a while.
And I'm going to start implementing the stores and player locker for the Ready Room.
More news as it happens...
Have fun!

Well boys (and Qt).. been moving around the country a bit. Just got back and settled into the Green Bay area again.
Someone was asking about rare weapons... I had one or two. ;-) Let's see... there was one of the original 1 lb ULUHV's. A light shotgun. One of the original UZI's that Dave handed out to the admins (1 of 9 if I remember right). But my prized weapon was the High Velocity Grenade Launcher. Quick and dirty, it could toss 'em.
There were other items out there that never appeared in stores. Like, the Volume-less Grenades. Handel (ahem, Dave? ;-) ) used to hand them out occasionally. My absolute prized posession was the glasses. Nobody ever knew this, well, except maybe for Brockman, but I'm going to share the story on how they came about. Dug's gonna find me and mow me down after this. :p
We were sitting there one day and I asked Dug in the admin chat if he could make (literally) a rare item for me... something nobody else had ever seen. He asked "like what". My response was a set of long range x-ray infrared glasses... His response was "here, hold onto mine while I work on yours"... I couldn't believe it. I was holding onto "Dug's horn-rimmed glasses". Now folks, these glasses did EVERYTHING. They saw the entire field, had GPS, I mean everything. Once Dug got done at the workbench he gave me my shiny new glasses, and they worked beautifully. It was amazing. Not as good as the horn-rimmeds, but great nontheless. I think only one other person ever used them, and that was Brockman near the end of the game.
Hey yall.. if you get a chance, and you want to send an email, I'm at macc@new.rr.com. I'm also in the records page... somewhere in the M's. My handle was Macman. Well.. one of the many handles... LoL. (Chris, RUSirius, etc...)
BTW, I'm a Diablo II addict.. If you play, /msg *cmaccaux if you get a chance.
Laters.

Emu.. You putz!
Rares.. haven't thought about those in a long time. I guess I had a pretty nice rare.. or two. One was a jacket I think. My favorite item was my gun. I don't think it was rare though. So long ago.
Anyone know what happened to Brockman?

I think David unknowingly created a hang-out for the old PBNet crew by the looks of it...

There was a nice little underground scene of rare items on PBN. A lot known about, a lot not known about. Kept things interesting...

P.S. If I'm not mistaken, the old registration code for pbterm was PBX$100.

I'm extremely impressed with the way this game is turning out. Who would have thought those little 2D figures would actually turn into 3D animation some day. Good work, and I hope there will be a loyal following. -Soundtraxx

GL on the new game RM, i'll be checking back in for when it comes out.
01/28/2003 (4:10 am)
wow, i haven't checked back with the old pbn website for a year or more and was just bored, and found out about the new pbn your working on, i must say i will be playing it, i still wish i could play the old pbn, just like i am sure others do also, maybe you could put up one server for the old pbn game to run on, i doubt it would effect the other game if you hosted it on the same server, i personally think the old simpler style of the original is what made it such a great game.GL on the new game RM, i'll be checking back in for when it comes out.

Monday morning, Lawrence Neagle, programmer of the midly popular computer game High Velocity Paintball committed suicide. Sources say that the January 25th worldwide worm crashed the hard drive of the game, leaving hundreds of players out hundreds of dollars they had invested into the game. After breaking the news to players of his game, Neagle began receiving numerous threatening phone calls, allegedly from players of the game telling him to put the game back up or lose his life. The police have have several suspects and are in the process of bringing them in for questioning. No names have been released by the police. Neagle was found dead in his home, allegedly having hung himself from the ceiling fan. There was no suicide note, so police are investigation the possibility of a staged suicide possibly by a disgruntled patron of his game. More information on the case is said to be released within the week.
Whatever happens to any game, dont go as far as even threatening the creator or ,if found to be true, killing him because something he couldnt of prevented. i havent played as long as 75 percent of the people on that game but it makes me sad to know it went to this extreme. It makes me mad to think he was going to make a new hvpb but now it will never happened. its hard to see a great game go but harder to see the programmer die because of it. Dont beat me up RM for saying this but it needs to be told. thanks for your time.

hey alpha and dark, glad to see people from the old hvpb that i know, but gonna bring some sad news from hvpb, Lawrence Neagle commited suicide (or so it appears) after the crash of his game. heres the whole story since i want everyone who plays hvpb to never do this cause its just a game and this is life.
