Plan for Scott Schaefer

DUST OFF plan update.

(for those of you who missed my last plan, "Dust Off" is a Vietnam themed shooter).

It has a very basic storyline:

First off, "Dust off" was basically a term used by our Huey medics that meant they've loaded their wounded and it was time to get the hell out.

The year is 1973 and due to the large lack of support back home for the "conflict", the United States pulls out of Vietnam. The problem with this is the large number of American M.I.A.s that are still lost throughout North Vietnam and Cambodia.

President Nixon gives the go-ahead to leave behind a small covert platoon of the bravest most battle-hardened soldiers to attack these encampments with extreme prejudice, and bring as many of our sick and wounded comrades home with them.

The first "ALPHA" release will be a simple mini-game to test some technology: Mostly simple AI and chopper physics to get input from the community. It will be a simple CHOPLIFTERtm 3D-type minigame in which you fly around and pick up hostages that run for the heli and you take 'em back to base, etc...
If you liked Choplifter, you'll probably like this:) I'm shooting for around May..

SOME GAMEPLAY IDEAS:

Gameplay will be as "arcadey" as possible, as I am going for ease of play rather than massive content. My reasoning behind this is not everyone is a hardcore bad-ass gamer, and I want the easy to understand HUD, control scheme, and fun of an arcade-type game. The helicopter and fighter jet will have "fun" control characteristics, not flight-sim type realism. For example, an F-4 phantom is a 2-seater aircraft, but my model aircraft will be a F-4 shaped aircraft which is very similar, with one seat(who wants to co-pilot?;) I will not use the true F-4 handling characteristics (max angle of attack, top speed, g-force) but I will of course use them as a baseline. I am more interested in fun to fly!

It will be a 3rd and 1st person view hybrid. "Action Cam" while running and "down the sights" viewing for stationary shooting. To many games let you shoot accurately while running, but not this one! Shoot from the hip, baby!

Anyway, "Dust Off" is a co-op online game, not deathmatch. All Vietcong are slated to be bots. I'm not trying to set any records with level size either. I'm going for "Missing in Action" or "Rambo" settings. A POW camp, small village, etc. with lots of enemies spawning from random hidden areas.

Just some thoughts and a quick plan update...

Thanks for reading,

Scott

Sounds nice. Maybe something Delta Force inspired. Love the gameplay on that one.

"Keep it simple" ideas from amateurs should
be encouraged, so that's why I'm here.

Best of luck!

Yeah, Delta Force was fun back in the day. At that time I'd play online with a 56k, 266 pent 2, and 64 megs of ram. Believe me, tommy want pingy.

Thanks for the support,

Scott

Holy crap. Choplifter...oh wow. I played that on my Apple a LONG, LONG time ago. Hehehe, I can still remember the sounds now that you reminded me that game existed. Oh man. The little *blink* sound it made when you picked up the people...and then there was squishing them. Ahhh.

And then there was Bards Tale...
