New Torque3D forums, take 42

Hey guys, as some of you probably already know, I've set up a new forum over here forums.torque3d.org. As you can see, the url looks pretty official, and the SC seems to be willing to move over there. Back me up here guys!

So why move to a new forum? Frankly, this has been requested for months, but inertia has kept the community here. I think the combination of the increased and persistent amount of spam on the forums and other website issues will give the community the push needed to move over to a new website.

So what will the new forum have of new features?

Proper forum software!

Yes, now we can create proper forums and subforums with custom-tailored permissions. The SC can have a forum all to themselves and we can create whatever new forums we need, which brings us to the next point:

The community is in control!

We decide what happens, we decide what features we want, we decide the design who gets banned, promoted or whatever.

Proper TorqueScript syntax highlighting!

With control comes power, and that power can be used to highlight TorqueScript properly on our pages!

No more spam!!!!!

Yes, you heard me. Now we have proper moderators, and proper anti-spam features. We will work actively to make sure the spam is removed and prevented on a regular basis.

It's already active!

With over 140 posts, and 40 members you aren't entering a solitary desert. There is already activity over there!

Modern design

We have modern Torque3D-theme on the forums, which looks nice and fits into the general Torque3D design used on other websites. This ensures consistency and ofc we have control over how it looks if we want to change it in the future. Furthermore, you can choose or request what style you want to view the website in, if you don't like the current look.

Ofc there are many more features/reasons to move, I just highlighted the highlights heh, to keep it short (I know your attention span :P).
See you on the other side!

And we can still link back here for reference!

And we can link active discussions here to be continued on the new forums!

Looks like it already has more activity than this one, if you count out the spam here.

Hello Kitty theme makes everything better ... well, maybe not better but much pinker and with a Hello Kitty cursor. :)

On my way....
EDIT:
I would like to suggest that you add a Forum Suggestions forum, an Engine Suggestions/Wish List forum and a Website Suggestions forum.
Also a place to submit your game for listing would be nice.
On the main web page it's a bit confusing to have Official Forums point to GG's forums and then another one pointing to the new ones. If it were me, I'd have a direct link called Forums on the main page going directly to the new forums to reduce confusion and promote traffic.
Can you increase the max avatar size? 90 x 90 pixels and 14 kb is horribly small. It's smaller than GG's terribly small size. I finally had to upload one to my own site and even then it was still limited to 90 x 90. Took me 20 minutes to get an avatar set up.

Thanks for all the hard work guys,
Scot

@Scottie
Forum and other website suggestions goes under the "Torque3D Websites" forum.

Game listing is either the Wiki or a mail to dB to for getting added to the landing page ;)

I'll poke dB about the forums thing on the landing page.

I'll consider the wishlist thing. And I'll definetly look at fixing the avatars :P

Edit: now you can upload avatars of any size.

ahh, was that there the whole time? lol Sorry, maybe call it Website Suggestions?
The User Blogs on the main page still point to GG's Blog site too.
Thanks for the avatar change! I think it'll help the next new sign-up get customized.

The reason there isn't more linking from torque3d.org is because this forum is like a week old, and we didn't want to jump on it too hastily :P. But it does seem to be gaining more traction than any other efforts we've seen so far, so I'm sure we're not far off putting the official stamp on it.

Agree that the suggestions forum should have feedback or suggestions in the title.

Feature requests are currently handled by the Uservoice forum, but it would make sense to move that to a location we control. We currently can't mark a suggestion as being in progress or completed without going through GG.

There's a wiki page for games that nobody has used - would the forums be a preferred location? Also, user blogs still links here because it's where everyone writes user blogs :P.

The wiki seems like yet another place to have to go to for info. The more handy and consolidated info is, the better, imho. I vote for the Forums.

User Blogs are one of the main reasons I come to these forums so the sooner you get people doing their blogs/updates on the new forums the sooner people will come there for the info. Is it possible to get GG to help steer people over? Like a stickied post on the Blog section and other forums telling people?

A post on the main page with a link to the new site would really help too. If they would just start dismantling the T3D and T2D engine aspects of the site and transform it to the GG Interactive site that would help.

But.... are we allowed to flame with holy righteousness when justified ?

Lukas as I already saw the forums yesterday and posted, you have my full support. Though some in the community think I had my own motives for torque3d.net I just wanted to put my foot out there for y'all, hoping you would toe the line (military jargon), not many stepped up. So Torque3d.net will go dormant for now and become whatever the community needs it to become, or it will expire and I'll swallow the $15 bill for the domain :(

Just registered over there. Are there any dangers of GarageGames ditching this site if it became a ghost town?

How are these new forums better? Forums here have been good enough and this just seems like just a good way to start fracturing the community further (what's left of it).

@Kevin Rogers just a screenshot of most recent threads here on GG.com:

That should be reason enough tbh. Apart from that, there is the ongoing thing with the Torque community wanting to have its own identity, i.e. having everything under the torque3d.org domain.

On top of that the forums simply allow us to have more modern features, design and possibilities. We can create subforums as it suits us and we have an active web-development team. We can have things like proper TorqueScript syntax highlighting, Hello Kitty theme! and special SC-forums that only the SC can post in. I think I could go on and on with reasons for moving to the new forums, but I think it ultimately comes down to the high amounts of spam on the forums lately, I believe that is what's making the push atm as prior attempts to do this have failed.

There is already more activity in the new forum than in this one, especially from the productive community members, that is a good indicator to me that the majority has agreed to move over and if you want to keep track of the newest resources and developments you will have to go there as well.
