The AlterVerse Project

Hey guys sorry for not posting a blog in like...well I don't know if I ever have...lol. I'm horrible at doing blogs. In fact if you're good at it we're looking for someone! We've been pounding out this game for a little over 4 years now and we're about to do a Kick Starter for it. We put together a video to tell a bit about it. I can't really call it a trailer cuz it's 2 1/2 minutes long. More like an infomercial. We're hoping to get some feedback from a few folks before we start to push it and I thought you guys would be the best critics.
When I say 'we' I mean Michael Reino and myself but we've had a lot of help from a lot of people including many from here. Ron Kapaun is responsible for a lot of the foliage and skies, we've used almost every indie 3d modeler out there; Arteria3d, Dexsoft, Mr. Necturus, and others. Stefan Lundmark did a lot of work for us on our Tap-Link. Jondo helped me immensely with the avatars. Steven Kangestu - Web Programmer, Stephan Vogt - Custom 3D Models, Abraham Hadley - Custom 3D Models and Quests, Eric Kinney - Videos and War Paint, Alfio Saitta - Programming and Security, Brian Babin - Quality Assurance, Brian Rollins - NPC Voices, Lukas's IPS is being used and WinterLeaf's One World, and everyone else who's worked on the engine and continues to work on it. We're using some of Jeff Faust's AFX too and the UAISK from Twisted. Thanks to all you guys!
Please let us know what you like, what you don't like. What we forgot etc. We know it's long and a bit wordy but we are trying to get as much of the info across as possible. Watch it twice if you have too! It's better to fix things up now than after we start spamming the internet with it. Any and all questions are welcome!
So without further ado, here's the vid...watch it in HD directly on Vimeo's site by clicking HD!

Looks like it lacks ambient occlusion, but the game seems cool!

Game looks great, but one thought... it seems to flip flop between times such as future, dios, medieval and such. Might be confusing for some. Overall, it looks like something people would buy, good luck with it. I have stopped showing off my work and posting blogs/videos on my projects here at GG due to such negative feedback all the time on whatever project I'm doing. i hope yours goes well and your accepted with open arms. the game deserves a chance. Beware of the trolls that lurk nearby...Take care.

@Lukas - Yeah, we're not using any PostFX in the video. We really need to get a better understanding on how to use the PostFX system. You know anyone that has an eye for it? I was told some of it doesn't really work right yet or needs work? It's an area I really want to get a handle on shortly.
@Will - Thanks man, we're going for an AlterVerse with worlds of all kinds of characters, times and themes. I'd like to add zombies and mobsters next...lol There's really no limit to the types of worlds we can have. We'll start small though and see if the traffic bears going further.
Keep the feedback coming guys. Don't hesitate to give an opinion and explain what you liked as well as what you didn't. We want to get a good feel for what to expect from a broad base.

The introduction is exciting and interesting, but a little too long.. Mixing in some previews of what the game looks like would probably catch the attention of viewers for a little longer.

Heres an idea, what about having short game-play clips in between the introduction to the universe? The introduction is exciting and interesting, but a little too long.. Mixing in some previews of what the game looks like would probably catch the attention of viewers for a little longer.

Wow this looks awesome-sure it needs some touch ups but hey all AAA games need touch up's in their own areas... Here is my tip, lose that iPad looking tech and stick to Android (iHate MAC :P).No seriously it looks awesome-props!

@Lukas - Thanks for that idea. We might try to shorten up that intro somehow. It's cool but a bit long. It's really time consuming trying to get all the breaks to line up with the music just right though so chopping it up and moving things around is no easy task. Maybe I'm just tired. lol

@James - Thanks! lol Yeah, We still have to redo those icons, definitely has an iPhone look to it.@Lukas - Thanks for that idea. We might try to shorten up that intro somehow. I agree with other posters that the beginning seems a bit long.
You mentioned a specific date early on--perhaps if you expounded in your narration upon the significance of that date, and what it means to your game, it would help give a bit of meaning to what the viewer is seeing on screen and fill up that first portion.

@Jeff - Thanks bro.
@James - Sounds good! Thank you. I'll let you know as soon as we have the final version ready. We plan to put it up on YouTube and our site and anywhere else they'll let us once we're convinced it's good to go.

@netwyrm - Thanks man! We're looking into how to shorten up the intro...or make the body longer or both. You noticed the date huh? Good! I can't really go into the significance of it at this point though.@Jeff - Thanks bro.

Thanks Stefan, we're working at it still. Should have a new version in a couple days with a narrator to reduce a lot of the text.

We've also got it on our site now at www.alterverse.com.
Check it out and see what you think. Take a minute while you're there and create a free account. Maybe post something in the testimonials or rate the new website. Would love to get a few of you involved in the project! Hell, Join the 3000 if you get the urge! lol

ok, here's the final version of the vid on YouTube now. We added narration and removed a lot of the text as suggested by several people. We kept the intro almost as-is because the point of this first campaign is to get people interested in being one of the 3000. Feel free to link this one up on any sites or forums you know of!We've also got it on our site now at www.alterverse.com.

Looks pretty good! The narrator really helped on the long intro, now it's a lot more engaging imo. Great job!

Just a minor point, but worth fixing.

Great Job! Please note though at the beginning you show the mysterious portal....the portal is spinning in the wrong direction.Just a minor point, but worth fixing.
