60 Tons is now on Steam Greenlight, Indie DB and Desura

60 Tons is a Windows only multi-player team FPS tank game. The project is a personal hobby of mine in which I get to scratch my programming itch.

Inspired by other T3D projects such as Airship Dragoon, Blood and Mana, Dark Horizons and Life is Feudal I've decided to take the plunge with 60 Tons.

Steam Greenlight
Indie DB
Desura

In 60 Tons you join one of four teams as a tank in first person mode to battle the other teams. There are bases with flags to be captured but most of the fun is shooting the other tanks with various weapons. The tanks aren't realistic, for example you can cloak them and they even fly if you equip the right module.
The main design goal is to reward and encourage team play while discouraging solo play. Tanks can take a fair amount of damage which means it takes a while for a tank to be destroyed one on one. A very good tank player has little chance against two mediocre players so grouping and collaboration are essential for survival.

See it in action.

Here is a Intro on how to join and play. When you join, go to the white arrow and hit enter. That will place you in the "pit stop" where you can equip your tank. Try any of the 10 preset configurations to get started fast.

I'm always looking for feedback. Testing events are usually held weekly and announced on the Facebook page, Twitter, the forums and an email mailing list.

Thanks for your time and support!

Good luck for your game!

Don't get me wrong. But I think you should improve the Models and buildings. Maybe try to find an 3D artist? It looks more like a prototyp and not like a game.(Art wise)
A nice look is much importand to get a success, also when the game play is fun and good. Just my opinion :)

Cheers Daniel

@Tim Thanks! And thanks for hosting the garagegames channel and hosting my game lobby(which I plan to move if I ever get any kind of volume).

@D Thank you for the feedback. I completely agree. Many of my testers have complained about the look of the game. The tank model I have is from the original Tank Pack resource. Since I'm a programmer I've focused almost exclusively on game play.
Any advice finding a 3D artist?

You should put more work into the art, even if it is just a little, since your game is measured by it in a big part. The example terrains I made took me 3 days to make and even with not so much experience I believe you can do better than what you have got.
First you should learn a bit from terrains, generate a realistic heightmap with a tool of your choice, import it into Torque and place some props on there, like grass and some trees, you don't have to make them yourself, you can use premade or a generator like forester. It is not that hard as you might think.

@D email sent :)

@Steve, Stephen and Richard thank you!

@Duion I don't disagree. I find doing the artwork slow and tedious which is why I avoid it like the plague. I'm probably better off finding a partner that can help.
As far as the terrain, the terrain I have is purposely left completely flat for gameplay. If the terrain is too bumpy(realistic) then it becomes hard to aim and hit tanks which is a big problem in the game. So everything tends to be flat and boxy. That doesn't rule out more interesting terrains, just means I have to proceed with caution. Thanks for feedback, appreciate it.

You could use art that has already been done, for your prototypes, there is a lot out there, for example Ron's stuff is free now, or buy forester etc.
