Thinking of creating a Roblox 2 with Torque...

by John Shedletsky · 11/20/2011 (7:55 am) · 10 comments

I remember the first days we worked together on Roblox in 2004. We first switched to our new graphics engine in 2006, it's called: "OGRE". To those who don't know what OGRE is:
"OGRE is a graphic engine, we used to make roblox looking great like we used today."

Now, i decided to let roblox alone and will maybe give the game to my follower, MrDoomBringer. But now i heard alot about the Torque Engine. I first took a look into it in 2008. It was nice, but didn't had the time to do something big with it. Now i am thinking more and more of making a new Roblox. Roblox2(or Roblox 2) I will not remove the original roblox, i will give it to my follower. But when the right time has come, i will buy Torque 3D work with it and create a new Roblox.

Yes, im aware this would be a VERY big change. Which means this needs alot coding, modelling etc. the models are actually available already, but renewing the whole database connected with Torque...(VERY MUCH!) is something that takes another 3-4 years of work. So i will buy a new domain for roblox v2 and hope Torque was worth.

Conclusion:
I will keep the old roblox, but will not work on it anymore MrDoomBringer will. I will work on Roblox v2 more, and soon showing it to my great community.

I asked some admins of roblox that will help me with this project:

Modelling/Programming:

- Sorcus

Programming in Torque:
- Me.
- Matt Dusek

My son loves that game. I spend hundreds of dollars on Xbox 360 and PC games that he wants, and he always goes back to Roblox. =D

Welcome, John. I haven't heard of Roblox yet, but it sounds like a great game and seems to have a huge following. Congratulations! Can't wait to see what you can do with Torque 3D!

great idea! Like Joe, my son loves playing Roblox - a Torque update to this would be awesome. Sadly Lego Universe is closing down - another favorite, so a new and improved v2 of Roblox further down the line would make up for it, even though there is no comparison.

The physics and building capabilities of Roblox is pretty awesome. Would love to see something like that done with T3D. My kids have been loving the Roblox worlds for the last few months.

Pretty weird choice considering your biggest competitor has been on Torque for the longest time. Good luck though. It's a fine engine and Roblox will run much more smooth on it.

All right, just some clearing up:

THIS IS NOT THE REAL JOHN SHELDETSKY.

ROBLOX HATES BLOCKLAND.
IT STEALS PLAYERS FROM THEM, LIKE MINECRAFT.

Also, if you ever see a games developer from a major game company with HORRIBLE grammar, DON'T bother 'offering' them anything. They're just trying to use you. Also, John is second in charge. He can't do anything but help the community. Only the CEO can, and that's Builderman, and even then he's extremely busy.

So, what have we learnt today? To never trust a 11-year old troll, like the OP.

PS: He also has the wrong avatar. You know, I shouldn't be pointing out obvious mistakes. Also, take this post from a forumer from a forum John (yes, the real one) made.
"Where "John" slipped up.
1)MrDoomBringer is not a member of the ROBLOX team. He is the oldest working official "Super Moderator" working for them, and is a paid staff meber for the ROBLOX corporation. But he does not work in the office, or directly with any of the team memvbers.

2) Shedletsky is the Creative Director. This entitles him to "second-in-command" responsibilities; he does not have the ownership rights to "let roblox alone" and give it away to someone. That would, if decided, be left to the CEO and founding owner, Builderman.

3) He claims to be an "avid programmer" when it takes the utmost attention to case-sensitive lettering, and grammar to code even in the slightest. However few spelling mistakes may be on the blog post, the grammar is horrendous. Anyone who has been programming longer than 6 months makes it a natural habit to at least capitalize "i", as it is one of the most overlooked grammar mistakes; therefore, one of the biggest mistakes made in coding. Not to mention slip-ups such as "alot" (spelled and pronounced as two differnet words).

4) One of the comments pointed out an interesting fact; Torque hosts one of ROBLOX's leading competitors, "Blockland". Not to mention it would take a complete rebuilding of the game engine from the ground up to make it compatible."
End of.
