November Update

Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support.

Ouch! I had some second thoughts about the lack of news on InstantAction, but I didn't think THIS would be happening.

IAC is re-thinking itself from the ground up it seems : no more search, no more InstantAction, ... what else will follow?

I hope Torque can survive in one way or another.

Anyway, I wish you guys the best of luck in finding a buyer or a new job. It's never easy to hear such news. My thoughts are with the entire team.

@ henry:
I can deliver on the tech I have. At least I think I can we are going through the EULA now. My concern is not so much about the updates but the usability of the product. is our license going to be held up in bankruptcy court. If I cannot deliver I would be getting sued by a very big company and will be letting employees go as well. If that makes me a jerk then so be it.

I've made some really great friends on this site and TGB has definitely been the catalyst that has gotten me making games.

Thanks and best of luck to you all.

@James - Our site is probably getting blasted right now. News is hitting every major website and we are getting hit hard. We are probably experiencing overload.

That sucks, my hopes are with ye. I suppose it wouldn't have been put into play if it wasnt necessary.

Cheers to the creators and community members for helping us grow as game developers. Fingers crossed for a buyer....

I grabbed all the stuff in my account, just to be on the safe side. Not impressive speeds.

This is shocking to hear. I hope that things will turn out the best for all IA and Torque employees.

Good luck, everyone.

ummm, So this means money wasted for us binary owners then? or what?

Well... dammit.
No need to freak out, though. It would be especially scary if T3D users hadn't source code access. Armed with it, we can keep making games as long as we want, and I really, *really* doubt someone will be able to cancel our licenses.

@Andy Wright, I say GarageGames because of the good memories and it was in the GarageGames era they inspired me to try out game development. By the time IA came into the picture I was trying other technologies.

InstantAction/GG was owned by IAC. IAC is a large corporation that also announced today I believe that 130 people would be laid off and 2 offices closed for Ask dot com.

So this appears to be part of their effort to reign in costs.

Tax deductable. I guess they have to get some of their investment back somehow, but surely this would have an impact on their main holding companies share value?

@LJC you can still use it, It's just that if you run into a bug... well you can find another way to do things or change your game.

Well this is awful... Finally finished my AI project last night and was about to send in the files to the InstantAction store. Odd timing.

This is terrible news, I hope everything gets sorted out soon. To everyone who may be losing their jobs, I wish you all the best of luck. It's been a fun ride.

Long live the community.

Nice to see Bryce up and around after being under the weather

Bad day, it being Armistice Day, 11th day, 11th month, 11th hour and all.

@Bryce - providing the licences are good and we can still use the tech, you could still sell your pack, as many people were following it and would still be interested. I'm in the same boat, I have several packs to sell, but holding onto them for now.

If anything, the community are coming back and stand united - it is plain and obvious to see how many posts there are and it's still early days. Torque must live on!

@Michael Perry
is that why the character limit all of the sudden and lot of the blogs and stuff have the reply box completely gone.

Also about the limit it say 1000 words or 5000 characters I think someone left off a zero cause it barfs on you at around 100 characters
