IOH Content Seeding exercise

I recently posted this in a forum, but it's a bit buried and may not be seen, so I thought I'd post it as a blog as well. Enjoy!

Hey all...I'm running a mini experiment to see if there's sufficient interest in the indie game development community to start up a site that showcases your games, studios, and content.

I'm in the process of collecting information regarding titles (either available or in development), game synopses, and images to see if I can gather enough content to begin building the site.

It's hard for indies to get the type of exposure that matters, and we often get shut down by the major gaming sites, so I'm hoping to build a new series of sites where the indies take center stage. My first project will be indie games, but in the future we're considering films, comics, etc.

If you're interested in participating and having your content shown on the live site, please register here:

exibeo.net/ioh/register.php

You can begin uploading images and details about your game immediately.

During the content seeding phase, all submissions will be free of charge.

My target is to collect enough content for 200-250 games. I'd like to grab about 6 images per title.

PLEASE READ THE TERMS BEFORE SUBMITTING CONTENT! There's not a whole lot of legalese...just some background on the project and what we're trying to accomplish in this initial phase.

If/when we gather enough content for the seeding phase...we'll be shutting down the site. So if you're interested, move quickly! Once the final site is designed and built, you'll be contacted for a final approval before any of your content is migrated there. All content collected as part of the seeding process will be migrated to the final site for NO CHARGE!

Thanks for your help!

Ron

Hey Ron. all good ideas start small. You'll have your competition out there, the larger and more established sites covering the larger studios, so it is a good idea to give indies coverage and games that are in BETA more coverage, rather than go for the already known titles - gives us indies coverage for all sorts of reasons. I think if you can get people to sign up and give you their email address with type of game, how far in development and how far until completion (estimates) or T.B.C then you are well on your way in reaching that target. It would also be good if you give people some coverage with monthly or quarterly newsletter.

Good luck.

@JulianR...thanks for the well wishes. Games in beta...approaching release will certainly be the highlight of the site...there's no 2 ways about that.

@Jack Davidson...the site just went up last night. There's not much posted there. Post your own stuff and encourage others in the community to do the same.

Remember this is just a content seeding exercise. The goal of this exercise is not to have a site that people can browse content on. It's to collect the content. The 2nd phase of the project will be to build the final site that will serve (we hope) as a gaming news hub focusing on indie product.

Instead of "if you build, they will come" it's more like "if they come, I will build it."

There's no real value in building the final site if there's no content to interest gamers. When the site goes live...I want there to be hours and hours of indie game content for gamers to surf and look forward to.

Hope that clarifies the goals a bit!

Thanks for joining!

@Jack Davidson...still not much activity over the weekend, but Pino registered on the site and uploaded some images from 4 different games he's either released or is working on.

If you hit the "My Gallery" option on the menu...there's a "Member List" option and you can browse albums/games by user.
