Entries from 2/27 - 3/6
FYI - due to the Game Developers Conference, there may not be a Weekend Reading next week. I'll be playing it by ear and seeing how I feel at the time - I may just want to drop dead by then. So if I can't get it done, double dose coming the week after! There is a bit of brevity to this edition, but in my defense I have a plane to catch in 4 hours. California hooooooooooo!!!
Journal Land Pick of the Week
Continuous Refinement - Oh snap! Superpig busts the lid on the new site design, showing off what articles will look like in V5 (and by extent a large portion of the site as well). Now, disclaimer - I'm getting nothing but the generic error screen as of right now, despite hitting F5. So don't blame me if you can't see anything! Just flood superpig's email box ;)
From the Staff
* The Code Zone Bargain Basement Blog - johnhattan debuts his new video blog The Lazy Programmer, in which he is suitably cast as he is apparently too lazy to even shave (I'm with you, man). Yea, he's also a programmer too but he doesn't talk about programming in this episode. He does talk about upcoming books he'll be reviewing for GDNet, however. Go check it out and leave idiotic comments as befitting YouTube audiences.
Project Updates
* Mark the Artist Fights the Future - inspired by johnhattan's video blog, Prinz Eugn has made a quick video of the latest Angels build, showing off vapor trails and a bit of aerobatics. I want the expressive trees!
* Gauntlets of Recursion (+3) - HopeDagger has been playing with getting sprites up in the iPhone emulator and shares a bit of experience gained along the way, also plunks down the cash for a developer license and wonders how much slower things will run on the actual device versus the emulator
* Once a Bird - Demosthenes shares the new trailer for attack of the 50ft Verbose Dinosaur, as well as new cover art
Development Stuffs
* Promit's Ventspace - Promit takes a look at the existence of games middleware, with thoughts on how to make middleware attractive for people to buy and use
* You Gotta Squeeze Every Pixel - Staffan E dynamically links as little as possible, mainly only for libraries maintained properly by someone else. Those DLLs he does use, he implements silent installs for recent redist to ensure users have the proper files, and shares the commands
* khaos.theory - evolutional returns with a brief paradigm shift thought on 4X game design
Other Stuffs
* EnTAngleD: - Buttacup is hard at work on her engine, posting up lots of code snippets, but she's also randomly linking to YouTube videos at the end of each entry. At least, it appears random. But hey - variety!
Thanks for dropping by ApochPiQ, Wavesonics, Jason Z, LachlanL, Aardvajk, gdunbar, and zarfius
