(NOTE: I forgot to post up the Weekend Reading last week - the site was acting up when I first tried and I never got back to it. You can find it here)

Entries from 2/20 - 2/27

Journal Land Pick of the Week

Excursions into the Unknown - How well do you know C#? Mike.Popoloski has put together a little 5 question quiz to challenge your knowledge. Are you up for the task? Answers are here when you're ready to check your work - or just want to be lazy

Welcome back, HopeDagger!

From the Staff

* Gaiiden's Scroll - it's time to wrap up the month once again. February is too short! GDC is right around the corner and we have a few announcements regarding that, like a party and of course the roll out of V5. Then there's also stuff we're doing with our Facebook page and I'm wondering if there are any changes/additions you'd like to see for Weekend Reading.

Project Updates

* istar's Game Life - istar seems to be looking for programmers for his project, and has a lengthy list of requirements for anyone considering joining up.

* Mark the Artist Fights the Future - Prinz Eugn talks about the reticule systems for the fighter jet weaponry and some of the challenges in designing them, along with how MS screwed up Paint in Windows 7 and some new screens from Sir Sapo shooting down a helicopter

* Journal of rip-off - rip-off has a quick video demonstrating some blob physics as his little critter guys bounce around each other and perform mitosis. They're kinda cute lookin' - which means they're no doubt monsters of destruction. Never let cuteness fool you.

* Radioactive-Software - dgreen02 has a ton of screenshots showing off the lighting on the marine model as well as the interior/exterior of the completed drop ship model

* Old code never dies, it just fades away - code_zombie has a video of his Android-based dungeon crawler that is a mix of "Dungeon Hack, Diablo, and roguelikes". He's also looking for ideas on what to name it

* Journal of Aardvajk - Aardvajk gives us a look at the start of the new Squishy editor

* Programmology - okonomiyaki gives us a closer look at Farmageddon, the exploding cow iPhone game he mentioned earlier that he is developing with Scheme

* Milkshake's Dev Diary - another quick little video, this one from Milkshake and showing his constraint system in action for basic ragdoll effects

* What doth life - it's not much, but Aiursrage has a mini golf game you can play - Unity web plugin makes it worthwhile to spend a minute or so checking it out. Accessibilty FTW

Development Stuffs

* The Art of War - Saruman revists his last post on developing for the iPhone with a more in-depth explanation as to why he wrote about disabling exception handling, stating it's not just overhead cost but also platform portability

* Promit's Ventspace - Promit discovers that serializers in .NET can't handle interfaces and finds all the solutions to be "utterly ludicrous". So how do you do it? He explains.

* FREE AOL FOR THE MILLIONTH READER! - The Senshi pipes up with some thoughts to share on innovation in the games industry, inspired by an article written for the movie industry back in 2003 by John Boorman

* You Gotta Squeeze Every Pixel - Staffan E talks enemy movement in his Shmup game. There's math involved and my head hurts now, but if you're also pondering how you want to define your game object's movement then here's some fodder for you

* Merry Prankster Games - gdunbar links to an old project of his, where he ported the rouguelike "Omega" to the Windows platform. He has a short history behind the project as well as source and binaries up for download

Other Stuffs

* Any Colour You Like - benryves thinks about digging back into his Z8- computer project and considers what he wants to do with it as well as posting up a video of him demonstrating some basic parts of the computer

* Metaphorical Journeys of Happenstance - happy 5th anniversary to Ravuya and his blog! Yea that does kinda sound like they're married or something huh? Ok - happy 5th anniversary to Ravuya's blog!

Thanks for dropping by O-san,

blewisjr, Buttacup, VBStrider, Jason Z, dbaumgart, Slather, Wavesonics, and zarfius!
