RPG System Tool Kit - One step to the future.

by Kevin Mitchell · 01/30/2010 (12:00 pm) · 17 comments

So I am about to start the final process in creating a full RPG System for T3D. To those that have seen my resources Some of this maybe a repeat but I'm thinking I should have this product ready by mid summer.

The features will be as follows:

Class System:

In this system you will be able to create classes, specify the spells, and abilities used by said class. Specify attribute ratings for that class.

Player System:

Creation of the hero's for your game. Specifying the Class, starting and ending level range. Apply Animation sets, Character Objects Selection.

Item System:

Gives the ability to create and organize items, set buy and sell price as well as the effect of using said items.

Armors System:

Gives the ability to create armor types, and other specification.

Monster System:

Gives the ability to create monsters for the battle system to use.

Monster Group System:

Gives grouping capabilities to group created monsters together.

Mad Lib Script XML Event Creator:

This gives the ability to create step by step events in your game, from defining NPC's(will use a upgraded version of the NPC Resource I released a few months back.), to triggering event driven triggers for your game. This will be explained more in detail in about a month or two. (Depending on when my Child is born.)

Transportation System:

Will include Usable: Wheeled Vehicles - Hovering - Water Vehicles - Flying Vehicles

Character Pack:

Sex: Male - Female
Race: Human - Elvaan
Facial: Large Eyes - Med Eyes - Small Eyes
Age Range: Child - Teen - Adult - Elderly
Clothing: Various

Vehicle Pack:

Car - Hover Board - Ship - Airship

Monster Pack:

In development...

Spells:

In development...

Gui Pack:

Item List
Spell List
Party Viewer
Map Viewer

Item and Armor Store Gui Packs.

As Stated before I'm looking to get this done and ready by summer this year. The pack is currently 50% complete. I want to state that the Battle System will be separate from this pack for the main reason that I plan on making interchangeable packages that can be implemented into the system.

Battle Systems:

Classic RPG
Grid Strategy
Action Battle

These may come out 2 months apart.

My goal is by the end of the year prove that Torque 3D can be more that a FPS engine as so many closed minded people have stated to me over the years. I see T3D as a door of new possibilities. All my life(actually 7th grade), I have studied RPG's and what makes them work, What makes them enjoyable, and what makes them live on. I want others to be able to take their love for this genre and be able to create amazing things. I hope I can help this come true for the many out there without programing degrees, but still the desire to make something great. I know I might not know everything but I believe I've read enough RPG books, gaming theory books, design books, and enough schooling to pull this off.

This system will have so much more than I have given here. But I hope this gives people of an idea as to what to expect from the next months to come. As you can tell I love RPG's, and I hope you do too.

If you have any questions please post them here.

Sounds like a winner. Interesting to see how it shapes up.

" I know I might know everything" I figure you intended a "not" in there.

Sounds real good I like RPGs as well one because they take longer to finish the hole game and because they are just real fun. :P

I have build a full out turn base RPG made in TGE and TGEA. Was working on T3D port, but was put on delay.

Thinking of selling the code, or making it open to the community to finish.

Also have you ever played Penny Arcade Adventure for XBLA?

www.xbox.com/en-US/games/p/pennyarcadexboxlivearcade/

It's an RPG made with TGEA

OK now you have peaked my interest. This sounds truly awesome. I have been waiting on Kits of this magnitude since we pick up TGE oh so long ago .. Things like this are often announced and never materialize. I can tell you that any kits like this are guarateed sells from me and my team. If nothint more than to see how the underlying code is laid out and executed.

@Brandon
It's too expensive to develop such kit. If I can get everyone to pre-order it, and get enough people. We can make it work. We are in possible talks with someone to buy take over the project tho.

Ummm, Out Shock,
This is Kevin's post.
If you want to promote your product, please use your own post.

Kevin, your project sounds huge, and you really caught my interest with you battle systems and monster management. This sounds really useful to break up your average Torque FPS.

I'm still working on it slowly but surely. Ive been a slave to my job for a few months now leaving e with hardly any time at all. I've been posting blogs with updates. And i'm working on a good looking character pack for the displaying of the npc system.

That's so awesome!
Isn't it a part of your dream to create things that you want and have other people "worship" you for that? ;)
