Journal Land Pick of the Week
Journal of Aardvajk - Aardvajk has a great new video for Squishy that shows the game's introduction, along with the scripting file that makes it all happen. Looks awesome! As one of the more longer-running consistent projects here on the site, I salute you, Aardvajk. Keep it up.
Welcome back or thanks for dropping by ApochPiQ, coderx75, Trapper Zoid, and Prinz Eugn!
Project Updates
* IfThen Software LLC - Newsletter #55 - Building an Engine: small tutorial on how to manage dependency files to automatically know when they need to be rebuilt for large projects. Also new iScribble sketches from the Artist's Easel
* Journal of Lethargic Programmers - Another video, this time from cameni, showcasing vehicle physics in the Outerra engine via a truck rolling (and then tumbling) down a mountain slope. Ahhhhh!!! Watch out for those treesss oh nevermind. ;)
* Radioactive-Software - dgreen02 has updated websites for you to check out for both Urban Empires and Armored Warfare. Wait what? Yes, Warbots Online has been renamed to Armored Warfare, with snazzy new logo as well. Beta 2.0 coming soon!
* Robot University -- a 2D DirectX Puzzle - puz has released v1.09 of Robot University to the GD Showcase, adding six new levels and deleting one
Game Dev Stuffs
* Ramblings of a partialy sane programmer - blewisjr has run some basic benchmarks to find which is better, Python or Java, for him to use in his code project. The result is he'll be going over to Java, or maybe even back to C++ rather than stick with Python's bad mathematical performance he'd have to optimize at some point anyways
* /* Why you crying? */ - JTippetts has been exploring the usage of entity systems and components as opposed to deep heirarchy systems when it comes to managing game objects, based off an article he read on the topic (link included)
* OddGames development journal - O-san had his navigation meshes laid out last week, but now he's worked out how to path from node to node to allow entities to reach their goal without bumping into walls an corners. He explains his technique.
Other Stuffs
* The Code Zone Bargain Basement Blog - johnhattan has some free app suggestions including a graphical front-end for SQLite files, a system cleaner (that I use as well), a great Notepad replacement (I prefer Notepad2 personally) and how to watch TV on your computer, which I'm going to need to look into more seriously now that my capture card doesn't work with Windows 7
