Create Mocap with one video camera!

iPi Desktop Motion Capture™ (formerly known as Shoot3D) is an entry-level markerless motion capture technology that literally puts motion capture at animator's desktop. You can shoot a video right at your workplace using a webcam or inexpensive digital camera and have it converted to 3D animation on your PC. The technology is perfectly suited for small studios, freelance animators and motion capture enthusiasts.

I had wanted to try out their software, but it looks like you need Vista and a SM4.x video card. That's too bad. I'll have to give it a try once I'm finally able to upgrade my laptop.
Please keep us posted on your (or anyone else's) experience. Thanks!

iPi Desktop Motion Capture requires a consumer-class digital video camera (a camcorder, a web cam, a photo camera with video recording capability) and a Windows XP or Vista PC with a powerful SM 4.0-compatible GPU (GeForce GTX285 or Radeon HD4890 recommended).
He he recommended GTX285 :-). Does look interesting though.

animator to clean mocap at $40/hr * 40hr week "assuming that it is a full ranger of character animation for a single character for a game." you are looking at $1600 that is assuming that the animator could get it all done in one standard work week. "prolly not likely" So you are going to waste many times over the amount of money you saved on the software in the long run.

wow looking that the prices. man that is really freaking expensive for something so limited. the fully loaded version being $2K. Aint no way in hell I would pay that for something that does that poor of a job. There is sooo much skating in the samples it is ridiculous. there are several of these software that do at least this good of a job that cost far less. Honestly I would not pay more than $200 for it. especially considering how much time you are going to have to spend cleaning the mocap. if you dont already have MotionBuilder, Maya, or Softimage. You are going to need something like that to handle the cleanup needed. My suggestion would be to save you money and get a Opti-Trak systemwww.naturalpoint.com/optitrack/promo/promo_landing.html?promoname=mocapfoundatio...

Just looking at the vid in the sample, it's not THAT bad. I mean considering that is only with 2 camera. I'm sure that the skating effect will be min. or not even there with 4 cameras. For someone on a budget, it's not a bad way to start.
